Pre term birth clinic

I was wondering if anybody had any experience with going to a pre term birth risk clinic? I have my first appointment tomorrow after being referred, and have no idea what to expect. Not sure whether to bring my partner along or not (and do you usually get to see the baby whilst there?!). Any advice would be really appreciated!

Hey! I’ve been under the pre-term clinic since 8 weeks :) It will all depend on the reason why they deem you to be high risk. Mine was a previous surgery on my cervix, so I had cervical length scans at every appointment (the doctor did let me see baby every time too but i’m not sure if that was standard procedure). I also had slightly high BP so they checked that too. I saw either a consultant or their registrar.

Hi! I went for my first appointment at the preterm clinic yesterday. I also went in my pregnancy with my little girl three years ago. I go because I’ve had previous LLETZ treatments. They did a transvaginal scan to check the length of my cervix and they did a little ultrasound because I asked them to look at my baby 😊 I then met with the consultant after to discuss the results. I’m going to be monitored again in a few weeks. I hope that gives you a bit of an insight! My partner didn’t come but only because he had to pick up our daughter from nursery. He did come to my first appointment at the clinic in my first pregnancy so definitely take yours if you want to! Hope it all goes well ❤️ x

Thank you so much! This is super useful and really appreciate your replies. My hospital/midwife haven’t really told me why I’ve been referred but I think it’s because of a previous colposcopy so think it’ll be a similar experience to yours. Thanks again 🩷

I’m under the pre term clinic until 24 weeks ( I’m now 21+4 ) due to a premature birth last pregnancy I’ve had an cervical scan every 2 weeks since 16 weeks, they check on baby too but it’s mainly an scan to check ur cervix length ( urs could be different tho) so far alls go and no interventions luckily and if it stays that way I’m off there books at 24 weeks x
