Nursery policies

Hey everyone, just hoping some I’ve you could share your nurseries policies on Calpol and sickness?
For context my little one has been going to nursery since January, we have only made it through maybe 2 full weeks without him being sent home for a high temperature or “not being himself”
Our nursery has said any temperature over 37 degrees means they have to come home.
They have also said their Calpol policy is that any child given Calpol at nursery must be collected immediately.
I’m questioning if this is standard practice or if our nursery is the exception, surely I can’t be expected to drop everything and collect him when he’s just teething and not actually unwell?
Any help or experiences welcome! Thanks! X

Same as the nursery we use x

Ours is over 38, and same if they give calpol you need to collect them. They will also call if he's not being himself or can't settle and "is emotional" even without fever; I think the policy is worded something like "if they can't participate/engage in the activities", so it can be anything really.

Hey, our nursery has a ‘4 hour rule’ so the child has to be on the premises for 4 hours before they will administer calpol. When they need to, they’ll call for consent and give us the temp reading and then call us back if it has dropped/if they need collecting. They only give calpol for fevers. X

Ours says hi temp and stay at home but no rules with calpol, If they give it then depends on the reason why, if for a high temp then home but if teething or cold or whatever then fine to stay as long as they’re ok

They give calpol if got a temp, they ring for permission then I have to email with written permission and doses and sign the form when I collect. If it’s just one temp spike and it settles she usually stays until collection but there has been a few occasions I’ve had to go and get her if she’s really unsettled but luckily this has been rare and they are very understanding that I can’t just drop everything and go and collect as I’m a nurse so I have to sort a few things before I can leave work(obviously this would differ in an emergency situation).
On days she is quite clearly teething or has a cold we have the option to sign the form for them to give when we drop off so they don’t have to call us at work.everywhere is different though. People at work have to have loads of days off because their nurseries don’t let them in if requiring calpol etc. it’s one of the things I asked when looking round tbh x

Our Nursery is they ring to let us know if baby has high temp and to give consent to administer calpol. If fever has not gone down within 2 hours then has to be collected.
A fever is anything above 37.5.

My nursery don’t have a specific temperature written into their policies. They do instead talk about staff discretion over a child being too unwell to stay and when to contact the parents to collect. They are happy to give calpol for teething or cold symptoms, but if it’s a case of needing to be dosed up to be able to be well enough to go/stay well enough to be there, then they need to be kept at home.
They’re really good actually, both my boys have been in whilst teething and with coughs or colds, and been given calpol where needed. I’ve only ever had to collect when there’s been V&D or where they have developed high temps and symptoms that show they’re coming down with something (excessive sleeping, inconsolable, not eating or drinking etc) which is absolutely reasonable.

We’re really lucky, they will check temp/acknowledge teething etc and administer calpol or nurofen, record it in the app and then if temp goes down or little one is in better form they keep them. Mine has someohow never been sent home in 4 months, Ive kept her off 2 days when she was really ill with a chesty cough but they seem to try and keep them as long as they arent ill ill or have a bad rash or something. I would find your policies a nightmare tbh

My nursery said if they have Calpol at all they have to remain at home for 24 hours from the last dose

thats wild!!!

it's so that it doesn't disguise if the child has a temperature that they don't know about or something 🤷‍♀️

Our nursery’s policy is if they’re ill enough to need calpol then they’re too ill for nursery!
We’ve only had to collect a couple of times and he’s been going 9 months - one time they were concerned about him having conjunctivitis so they let me pick him up take him to the doctors and take him back.

do they apply this for teething as well?

I have worked in nurseries for 14 years and always been if child has a temp above 38 then they can have calpol but need to be collected if not gone down in 30 mins, I also think as a practitioner and as a parent if calpol is needed unless for teeth then they should remain at home.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Every bath she goes in quite happy but will only stay like this for a very few mins, if I try to clean her or move her we have tears and after a few mins the same. It's like she is scared. Our current baby bath is quite big should I try a different one? Looking for any suggestions as want her to enjoy bath time not be upset and I'm scared I'm going to make her hate it😢💗

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?

Crying during feeding

Hey mams! My girl is 6 weeks on Monday and is having so much trouble with feeding. It doesn’t happen every feed but more often than not she will start a bottle and just start crying as if she’s in pain and she can’t take the milk. I think it’s trapped wind but I genuinely don’t know what to do it’s so pitiful to see her not be able to feed! She’s formula fed and on HiPP Organic.
Anyone else been in this position? I’m pretty sure it’s just a bit of trapped wind that she needs to fart out but can’t! If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful as I think I may need to tape my eyelids open soon 😂
