NOT on the move

My LB is nearly 9mths and no notion of crawling yet.. he can sit independently (will occasionally fall back) but loves being on his back! He doesn't really roll.. can get halfway and when he does manage to get onto his tummy he can't get back again.. Whenever he's on his tummy is won't straighten his arms for support but will lift his head up for a short while! He just loves putting his hands in his mouth.. Just a bit concerned now!

I’m having the same problem also and about to book an appointment for her just to be sure. Could be if they didn’t have tummy time enough. My LB hated it and I wouldn’t let her cry. I’m trying again daily to have her on tummy time as she won’t roll either or try to sit. Hopefully it is just coz they take their time or some babies just simply walk.

@Artjola would just love to see some signs of him wanting to be on the move.. my HV sounded concerned so hoping they can help whenever his review comes around!

Mine is not crawling yet either. He can roll, I saw him do it both ways several times but it's like he forgot. He tried to reach a toy from seating position a couple of days ago and almost went into crawling position on his knees from sitting, but then changed his mind and plonked himself back on his bum. He's late August baby so almost 8.5 months.

This sounds exactly like my LG 3 weeks ago… now she’s crawling all over the place. I was really worrying as she’s 9 months on Monday and was showing no signs of moving at all and then all of a sudden she’s learnt to roll, kneel and crawl in the space of a week. We just gave extra time on the floor for a few weeks and it worked xx

@Aimee is there anything in particular you would do with your little one on the floor or was it just tummy time?

I would also be worried if it was mine just because that’s what we do for our little ones, but I do know from people around us that this absolutely normal 9 months not crawling is nothing to actually worry about, at most he’ll start doing a few weeks after some babies (not most) around you, but it doesn’t mean anything for his future life at all. They generally develop one thing at a time so if he’s not on the move yet it’s certainly means that he’s working on some other things than motor skills, this will come soon enough too! If you really are worried talk to your pediatrician but it’s completely normal to crawl at 9 months as it’s normal not to as well x

Mainly just tummy time but we also started using toys that involve her needing to “kneel” up a bit (like the toys/buttons on the push walkers) and then used a long cushion to support her to encourage her to push her arms up. But I honestly wouldn’t worry too much! I have friends with babies a few months older than ours and they’re not crawling yet. My worry came from the fact we didn’t do much tummy time until around 6 months because of her being so sick before that so worried that she was going to be delayed from us not letting her be on her tummy much xx

My daughter born 3/8/24 can sit unassisted and roll onto her tummy but thats it. She’s 98 percentile so i think she’s struggling to lift her own weight in regard to crawling or sitting up from lying down (which she’s trying to do a lot to no avail yet) Some babies don’t crawl though my son who’s almost 4 never crawled, he went straight from rolling, sitting up to standing holding onto things then walking.

Just to try and reassure you - my eldest didn’t crawl until she was 12.5 months and walked a few weeks after that.
