Low lying placenta and flying

Has anyone ever flown with a low lying placenta? My doctor won’t issue fit to fly but we have spent absolute fortune on tickets.

Personally if a doctor won’t issue a fit to fly I wouldn’t be flying as there is clearly a reason they won’t sign you off due to I’m assuming more risks. How many weeks will you be?

I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week scan. I got rescanned privately at 24 weeks and my placenta had moved up and was no longer low lying. I went on holiday and everything was fine. I wouldn’t fly with low lying as you can have bleeding. Not worth the risk. Hopefully you can claim on insurance.

I have low lying placenta (previa) and have been admitted to hospital 3 times in a month due to bleedings, last one was basically like a period and that was without flying or doing anything extreme. I was super worried I was at risk of losing baby. It can lead to massive bleeds and you could bleed out. I would not risk it if I was you. That said, if you do a scan and placenta has moved up, they might give you the ok to fly.

I’m in the exact same boat. Low lying placenta 0.6cm from cervix at 20 week scan and due to fly to Crete at 30 weeks. I’ve not had any bleeding touch wood and the Midwife said she can give me a letter but cannot certify the safety of my travel and ultimately it’s down to me but they can’t offer rescan therefore I have booked a private for when I’m 26 weeks to see if it’s moved, it is still low I won’t be going, if it’s moved we will x

I have a low laying placenta (not placenta previa) and didn't have any issues flying at 25-26 weeks. I think if you have placenta previa then you shouldn't fly at all! My midwife said that as long as I'm before 28 weeks, not bleeding and feeling well in myself then it's fine. You won't need a fit to fly before 28 weeks but if you're over 28 weeks then a Dr or Midwife won't certify you as fit to fly unless you've had the most straight forward pregnancy with no previous history or current complications. I wouldn't personally wouldn't travel after 28 weeks as seems too risky and I did find a 4 and a half flight at 25/26 weeks uncomfortable.
