Food at hospital

Very weird question. I’m planning a natural birth. Does the hospital usually provide meals before and/or after giving birth? 😅

You might get some tea and toast after unless you have to stay in . Don't count on it

Our hospital was really accommodating last time. Even when I was in triage for a few hours they would offer me any spare meals or at least a sandwich and fruit etc. I had an induction and was offered food throughout the day and then I believe I was offered food the next day following my emergency section. I’d definitely take lots of snacks though as others haven’t always had the same experience. There’s often a cafe or a discounted restaurant around too x

I went in at 2am so in triage I got offered breakfast in the morning little did I know I went to delivery that morning and I got an evening meal afterwards😊x

Really depends on your hospital, with my first I got hot meals for breakfast lunch and dinner with snacks in-between
With my second (at a different hospital) I had to beg for a sandwich

My waters broke around 11am and I went to triage without having had breakfast (a mistake looking back!). I wasn't allowed anything until I had been assessed in case I needed emergency C-section. That wasn't until 2:30pm, by which point I was 9cm and gave birth at 3:45pm. I got toast around 5pm then taken to the ward at 6pm which was after dinner so I didn't get anything else that day! We had to stay in a few days and meals were at the same three times every day on the ward 🙂

Yes hospital does provide food but that depends on what time you are there as anything beyond 6pm is where you won’t get anything until 7am in the morning. They have timetable for food but tea and coffee area is there for patients to go and get something

I was offered tea and toast after birth and then meals were provided 3 times a day up on the post natal ward, however would recommend taking snacks as hospital foods not great!

I got a bit of toast and that was it. Gave birth at 3pm hadn’t eaten since the the morning at home and didn’t leave until midnight so was hungry but had to go and buy sandwiches from the shop if I wanted anything more than toast

Had mine at UCLH and meals were provided x breakfast at 6/7am (bare in mind it was only toast and a cup of tea or coffee) Lunch at 12/1 and dinner at 5pm. If you want anything after 5pm I would suggest bringing stuff in or asking your partner to head to the shops.
Btw I would suggest bringing extra postpartum pads, the pads they have are quite small and look as though it would be easy to leak through

Tea and toast after baby arrives.. you only get "meals" if you have to stay.

I ended up ordering in as the meals weren't great and often cold when it arrived 🙃

I managed to miss breakfast and lunch when I went down to the ward. They don’t always tell you the food cart is in the corridor.

I arrived 9.30pm so missed the breakfast order for the next morning, and was then home by lunch. My husband even ate my toast 😂

Bring your own snacks and some for your birth partner too, they won't get any. I wouldn't count on the hospital food. You can also get deliver food too

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
