We have been working on putting our 14 week old down for naps during the day.
It’s going well, but he only goes down if he’s swaddled, in a black out room with white noise.
How am I ever meant to go out as he has never slept on the go either. I keep hearing that I should make noise around him and make him nap in the light but he won’t sleep through that.
For context, if he doesn’t sleep he is inconsolable for the rest of the day so I have to get him to sleep somehow.
Do they just grow out of it and once they eventually learn to self settle they will sleep on the go?

I'd say it's easier when they're younger and sleeping all the time than later on, so don't wait for something to change. Try to notice when sleepy and give a little feed / cuddle / rock in pram - they might sleep a short time or longer time and either is OK.
If you prefer routine and have got baby used to sleeping in a dark room, it might stay that way and when baby has fewer naps you can organise your day around them?
I stuck mostly near home with my son who is now 2 and he has always been in the most amazing routine but yes it was quite restrictive. It did however make him a happier baby and child as he always had enough good quality sleep and knew what was coming next. Having to be a bit more fluid with my daughter as I have to think of my son’s day as well but hoping to be able to spend a bit of time at home to practise home naps!
