Head banging! Is this normal?

My baby does this all the time I just assumed it was like a stimming sensory thing he always does it when hes happy or calming himself down like hes regulating. I don't see the harm just as long as it's not to hard x

I just alwasy try to redirect the behaviour so I offer an alternative to let him bash his head on like a pillow or the netting of his playpen or against me. By doing this he does it less on the walls now or hard things x

Not head banging but she hits herself in the head with her hand. I was told to redirect her by showing her something different to do or give her a toy
