At what point do I buy a stairgate?

My baby is 8m, almost 9 months. He’s always supervised. He is crawling now but downstairs he is always in his playpen or on me. When we’re upstairs he is only allowed to crawl on the bedroom floor when I getting ready and stuff but I just close the bedroom door. At what point do I get a baby gate? Should I be getting one now?

Now sounds pretty reasonable especially if he’s crawling already

I got one as soon as my boy could crawl, one on living room door and one on kitchen but I live in a bungalow so it’s easier. I would get them now so he didn’t have to be in his play pen all the time x

We got ours the day after she crawled for the first time 😅 we have one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom so she has safe, free roam whichever level we're on! We've never had a playpen or anything because 1) I don't personally like them (absolutely no judgement for using them though!) and 2) we don't really have the space anyway 😅

@Lauren honestly I’d let him roam freely but the flooring downstairs is hard and at least in his play pen I lay down thick mats. We’re also still in the process of finishing up renovation so he’s safer in there for now😅

Get one now lol

I got one as soon as he started crawling... once he started crawling he wanted to EXPLORE lmao and the stairs was a big masterpiece he wanted to climb up on. 😂

As soon as they’re mobile I’d be getting a stair gate

Now. We had a stair gate and my son still snuck through it so we put one in the hallway and one at the top of the stairs.

You want to get it for your own convenience really and to not get baby into the routine of going on them or by the stairs and so you can be sure that it is blocked off by the gate regardless of where you need to be at any time in your house
