Hi all, our LO is just over 16 weeks old now and I’m trying to create healthier sleeping habits during the day when we’re at home, he’ll easily have 2/3 hour naps if it’s a contact one, but 20-40 mins if I manage to put him down. I also have no chance of putting him down drowsy but awake as he just cries out endlessly and I’m not keen on the cry it out method. How is everyone managing to get there little ones to sleep during the day?
Blacked out room/ bright room / white noise, or contact napping?
And if you are darkening the room during the day have you found it’s impacted the night sleep?

We put him down awake and give him a chance to settle, I think it’s called the ‘fuss it out’ method. If he doesn’t settle after a few mins we go in and soothe him to sleep or put his dummy in.
At first he was only doing short naps but now we get slightly longer ones after a lot of perseverance.
We probably try and resettle mid nap maybe 2-3 times but if he’s not having any of it we just turn the lights on and act all happy like it’s our choice to get him up 😂

I did all of the contact naps 24/7 with my first and now I have A toddler tornado I do just put little one down for his naps. He’ll either feed and drop off, then I’ll burp and pop him down. Trying my best to get him used to that as it’s so helpful during the day with two x my first still only naps in the car during the day 🫠😂

My little one is 15 weeks and exact same as yours!
I’ve started doing the ‘fuss it out’ method like Sophie but at night time and when she’s mastered that, I’ll be doing same in daytime naps!

My little girl is 15 weeks tomorrow and for the last 2/3 weeks I have been putting her down awake in her cot with the blind shut, white noise on and her dummy for at least 2 or 3 of her naps per day, she does only sleep for 30-45 minutes in her cot and then she has one longer contact nap her day but I’m hoping if I’m consistent that she will begin to nap for longer the older she gets, it’s not helping that I think we are going through a sleep regression just now too x

Also, it may sound like I am doing a cry out method, but I don’t have the heart for this. My second baby just happens to be very very chill and will happily take himself off to sleep next to me on the sofa or in his Moses etc. counting my stars at the moment 😂
At night, I change him get him into his sleeping bag then feed him, burp him, give him a kiss good night and pop him into his next to me crib. In our room, we have rain noise and quite dark no nightlight etc but our blinds are rubbish. He will nine times out of 10 go to sleep within five minutes.

have you found replicating night time has affected actual nighttime sleep at all? We’ve been warned against doing this incase it impacts nighttime sleep x

nope. I think some babies are sensitive sleepers (need red light and noise etc etc) and some don’t. 2nd naps fine during the day and usually sleeps 8:45/9 till 4:30am without waking (EBF). Ofc this is now and can change literally day to day haha.
With my 2nd, he naps in his moses or car seat or pram etc, daylight and no bag etc. but at night we have a separate routine as above. I never did the night routine with my first for his naps either. I know this works really well for some children though and they get a good routine of a good few hour cot naps per day!
Personally, I didn’t want to be tied to being in the house for nap time so it’s not something we’ve done with either xx

Have you tried a love to dream swaddle? It's a miracle suit. ✨️

for us not really but mainly because he never slept on the go anyway. The reason we had to introduce the naps this way is because he refused to nap.
I haven’t noticed really any difference in his night sleep 😊

we were swaddling him but when he hit about 3 months we stopped incase he was an early roller. It didn’t cause any impact and he slept through the night really well. Then teething and 4 month regression hit, no longer sleep right through haha x
