If your child's private day nursery starts at 1pm, what time would you drop them off?

I dropped my daughter off at 12.53 and got told that's too early. It takes them 5/10 mins to come to the door most days so if I went at 1pm she would be late going in? Interested on other thoughts/views.

I'd probably take her at 1 or a bit after. Like my daughter's nursery opens at 8 so I wouldn't think they'd let us in prior to 8, so I guess the same thing applies?

12:59 but wait a couple seconds after it hits, if they’re late getting to the door at least they’ll see you waiting at the door? Idk sounds like they need to get their business in order!

Edit. I don’t take my daughter to a nursery or daycare so maybe listen to the other mamas that commented, I don’t know anything about them other than what my sister has told me about the one she takes her baby too.

Yes it has to be 1pm on the dot, as I got told the exact same thing as you when I went in at 12.55pm so I just try to go for 1pm or wait a few mins until it’s 1pm. Like someone said, it’s the exact same thing for an 8am start, they won’t let you in before then. It’s just how it is!

1pm or after

They won’t take her any earlier! If you pay from 1pm, then you can’t drop her off earlier. If you arrive at 1pm would they be late to the door? I’m guessing they only don’t answer the door because you’re too early?

Avatar

@Annie yep this!

My daughters nursery opens at 8am, you can't get in any earlier. If you start at 1pm you can't come any earlier because they are putting the younger ones down for naps, clearing up from lunch, and taking their lunch breaks!

Avatar

Some of this may be to do with staff ratios as well. They may have to let the morning children go first or maybe staff are on their lunch break. Or as Claudia said tidying up from lunch and sorting out.

Avatar

It probably takes them 5/10 minutes to come to the door because you are 5/10 minutes early. Aim for no earlier than 1pm.

Avatar

When they're late to the door after 1pm, where do i stand with that? I know its only a few mins etc but same vice versa

Avatar

Some nurseries have a 5 minute buffer, and will not let parents drop their children off before that. Just speak to the nursery and ask them what their policy is.

Avatar

I’ve worked in private nursery setting and it would be 1pm on the dot no earlier due to staff ratio and needing to get the morning children out before the afternoon ones come in and staff breaks needs covering too

Avatar

Ill press the button a few minutes to 1 and sometimes its an immediate answer and sometimes ive got to wait a few minutes. 1pm is also nap time for most of the kids so it depends on how many awake kids there are when I get there.

Avatar

Drop off at 1pm, and if they are then late to answer the door by 5+ minutes on a regular basis I would raise it with the manager.

Nursery tends to open their door exactly on the dot, and this is purely for safeguarding (in the UK). It’s to ensure that your child is always going to be supervised, if you bring them too early, there may not be anyone around to look after them, and that can put them at a safety risk, especially for babies and toddlers under 3. You don’t want to leave them alone at the door anyway.

So going there exactly at 1pm should it be a problem?

Avatar

Ours is a 8am start and his first official day I was there at 7:55 and they wouldn’t let us in! 🤣 I think it’s normal because otherwise people are just dropping off early and “not paying” for that extra time

Avatar

Usually 12.55, nursery have never said anything, unless that's because we pay til 6 but always pick up between 4.30 & 5

Avatar

1pm because they will have worked it so they have the correct staffing from 1pm. They probably have rotas where lunch breaks finish at 1pm so they have the right ratios. If they are a couple of mins late answering, I would assume they are in the middle of something e.g changing a nappy which they can’t break off halfway through

Avatar

Ours is 7.30 drop off and cannot be any earlier due to insurance and staff ratios.

Avatar

1pm and no earlier.

Avatar

1pm. Our nursery has protected mealtimes between 12-1, where they don’t answer the door/phones as all hands on deck for meals. Morning children are collected at bang on 1pm, and afternoon children picked from from bang on 1pm

Avatar

It could be due to staff ratio rather than the staff being funny. For example people might be due back of dinner at 1 etc

Avatar

Clicked earlier by accident. I would be there for 1. At my nursery we open the door at the time we open and let them in. No one needs to buzz then as they know to wait outside and then have 10 minute window with a staff member on the door letting them in.

Really bothered by this

A friend posted this and it really bothers me because that is exactly how she parents her kid, and it's rather unfortunate because when our kids hang out together, her kid has a meltdown at least 5x within an hour. We have know them for years and it's only gotten worse. My kids will concede to hers, because they don't want to see their friend crying, but it sucks because they give up so much of their toys and enjoyment to keep the peace. We aren't hanging out as much anymore but it's rather sad to think she doesn't intervene more in her child tantrums and just let's it slide

Is this normal

Let’s say you’re at a softplay with your 2 year old, and some friends & their toddlers.
You buy your 2 year old a kids meal - chicken nuggets, beans, and chips. They’re very happy with it and have almost eaten it all.
They’re sat at the table, fork in hand, consistently eating, and have one chicken nugget left.
Your adult friend comes over from behind you, picks up the last chicken nugget, and eats it.
There was no indication that your child wasn’t going to eat it, and they didn’t ask. They just took it with no warning and ate it right in front of you and your toddler.
How you reacting?

Are these men ok?

I get so sad seeing all the posts on here daily about women dealing with partners who are treating them horribly. I know it seems over represented because those of us with great partners don’t need to write posts asking for help, but I really hope most of us don’t have these kinds of men in our lives!

I tell my husband about these posts I see sometimes and he’s even shocked by some of the things these guys say/do.

Nobody’s perfect, and every relationship takes work. And becoming parents is a stress test unlike any other for sure, but seeing how many women get stuck in these relationships with men who aren’t interested in being better is so so sad😞

But is/was your partner helpful, loving, and supportive during your pregnancy/PP/etc? Was he a wonderful person but changed for the worst after becoming a parent? Has he put effort into becoming the partner you need him to be, even if he struggles?

Friends with shitty husbands

Does anyone have a close friend with a shittv husband?

My best friend of 14years married her high school sweetheart (minus the sweetheart.) He was always a POS growing up, had an on and off relationship and eventually from what I was told, they sorted their shit out and got married. I moved countries and her and I drifted apart for a while so I didn't know too much about what their relationship was like but assumed all was well since her social media alluded to that.

We both had babies within a year of each other, she had hers first and when she gave birth I found out I was pregnant. I had a rough pregnancy and we weren't in contact much but after my LO was born we spoke a lot. This is when I found out that she was struggling with PPD etc. She opened up about how useless her husband is, I would go as far as to say abusive. She's a SAHM who basically does absolutely evervthing & is being financially abused She's completelv touched out and is about to have a second child in a week.

I absolutelv cannot stand her husband. I hate how he treats her. I hate to hear about him. She posted on social media all the time about how lucky she is to have him as a husband and father to her babies yet cries to me on the phone in private about what really goes on.
I'm at a point now where I want to tell her that I don't want to hear about it anymore. I feel guilty that she's going through this but she's also allowing it to continue in a sense. I'm so emotionally exhausted with her problems and just want to shake her.

How do you/would you navigate this situation?

Car issues

Idk if I’m in the wrong. I have a full time job. My husband takes care of the kids while I worked. Today was the day I was supposed to get us a car. But I couldn’t cause of the down payment. So now he’s texting me saying I’m wasting his day to be alone at Walmart so he can spend his tax return. I really want to say go ahead. Leave. Leave the kids and me alone. While you go out and spend money. While your at go ahead and buy urself your drugs and a bitch to go fuck.

Lucky I’m even thinking about him about the car situation if not I would’ve been buying me and the kids a car small enough for us!
