Breastfeeding baby with suspected CMPA

I've been dairy free since last Wednesday. Was starting to see improvements in baby girl, poo was going a normal colour and skin was improving and seemed more settled. However yesterday green poo, red blotchy rash and crying in pain all came back again so doc thinks I've eaten something with milk in without realising. This is so hard and I check all labels before eating anything! Starting to doubt every single thing I eat. Any advice or tips on what to eat, favourite meals or snacks etc? The crying in pain is awful and I feel so guilty

It can take 6 weeks to clear from your system and then a further 6 weeks for babies gut to heal so I wouldnt worry too much yet. Quite commonly babies with cmpa can also be allergic to coconut (which is used as a substitute in a lot of dairy free products especially cheese) and also soy so if in a few weeks you’ve not seen improvement it may be worth eliminating these too

It takes around 8-12 hours to clear your system but up to 6 weeks for babies gut to start healing. You have to check everything even ham or bread. What are you using as a milk replacement? Maybe that could be an issue? There's some really good groups on Facebook and some great accounts on tik tok to help with suggestions for foods. Have you checked any soaps/creams as some have dairy in.

Thankyou for the tip, there's so much I don't know or what to look out for other than just 'milk' in ingredients. We have an appointment with a dietician beginning of September I'm hoping we would have seen an improvement by then! 🤞

I’m afraid you should doubt everything you eat for a while. Until you really get into avoiding dairy and you will start to remember what you can and can’t have. It’s brutal. It’s why a lot turn to formula at this stage as it can be controlled easier.

Agree with what others are saying about GI symptoms taking a few weeks to resolve. However, the fact that a rash came back after the skin having cleared/settled and the crying in pain would suggest that it’s a new reaction to something you’ve eaten - either a dairy slip up or something else. Most likely culprit is soy (up to 60% with CMPA will also react to soya as the proteins are very similar). After that probably egg or one of the other top 14.

Our doctor had us cut out soy too because often babies that have issue with milk protein have a soy protein issue too, it helped us so much.. we also cut out beef

I read that something like 30% of babies with cmpa are also allergic to beef. I used to eat a lot of beef and didn’t see too much improvement with taking out dairy at first, but I think it got bettter once I also started avoiding beef

Thankyou, soy seems to be what the majority of people are saying so ill cut that out too and see if it helps

even with formula it’s not that cut and dry. The formula that you’d be started in initially generally still has broken down dairy in. Most also have soy and coconut so it’s still a lot of trial and error

It took about two weeks on the diet before we saw a real improvement in the crying episodes, and by four weeks, he was like a different baby! Honestly, just stick with the diet. it gets better and better each day.

Sometimes, it’s soy too! My baby had a CMPA but I was vegan so I was confused, but his pediatrician told me that a soy protein allergy is common with CMPA

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?

Strange question

Hello. I would identify myself as asexual but yes i am married and i have a child. But now that ive had my baby. I think its solidified that im done having sex. I feel bad as my partner keeps asking me but i just dont want to. Any advice on what i can do? Any other asexual moms out there? I guess this could be confusing but im not huge on being bound by a label. I have just always felt it represented me best since highschool.
