Lunchtime supervisor

I used to be a lunchtime supervisor for a reception class. You collect the children from their class and line up with them at the lunch hall and ensure they get their correct lunch in the lunch queue and aware of each child’s allergies.
Then you sit down with them and encourage them to eat their lunch nicely.

Same goes for the pack lunch kids. Then once everyone’s finished eating you clear the tables and wipe them all down.

Then it’s time to go out to play. Some children need the toilet so you will stand outside the cubicle whilst they go.

In the playground they can have accidents so you have to prevent this from happening and if they do you would take them to the school nurse.

At the end of lunch you line them up outside their classroom until their teacher is ready and then you inform the teacher of any squabbles or accidents so they’re aware of it ready for the afternoon session.

You also need to attend regular meetings and any training like safeguarding.

I used to be a supervisor at break and lunch for older kids year 3-year 8 too. With the older kids it was more about following the school rules, not fighting over football, not bullying, making sure they were wearing correct uniform before going into the lunch hall, not wearing trainers and reminding them to walk in the corridors and to tie their shoelaces up.

Thank you so much. I will be working with ks3 and I am so overwhelmed because it’s my first job at a school. And kids can be challenging so I was trying to get as much information as possible.

Yes I loved it. Regards tips you need lots of energy, be very observant and enjoy working in a team xx

Most of them are really well behaved and easier than your own children! It does get tiring though.
