Very odd one I’ve noticed my LO (13months) keeps hitting himself in the face/head and tummy, is this a phase they go through or is this just his boy energy starting to come out?

When my boy had his 1 year review I asked about the same thing and it’s supposed to be very common for boys to hit themselves/hit their heads off things at this age and both my Both did it quite bad but eventually grew out of it xx

thank you! Thought he was broken 😂 glad to know this is something that will eventually stop because he isn’t gentle either 🙈

Is there something we should do in regards to the hitting behavior? Block them and try to redirect?

Redirecting to patting their lap/a toy/the floor is a safe alternative, but it takes solid consistent redirection to retrain the behavior

It's a phase, my boys both went through a headbutt the walls phase instead of hitting themselves 🤷🏼♀️ they grow out of it lol but in the meantime you can try redirecting or distracting them to shorten the episodes

It’s their way of communicating that they aren’t comfortable or frustrated. Mine did the same but now that he can talk it happens less and now he just hits things with his hand and we are working on that but yea he used to slam his head on the ground and the table and he’s slap himself in the face and stuff and it was bad but it was just communication. Gotta get him away from what is upsetting him

Thank you all ladies 🥰 really appreciate it
