Home birth? After previous Precipitous labour

How far away are you from the hospital? Unless you're ages away you should still have time!

I think home births are amazing but your rationale for them should be because you truly want one, not cos your midwife doesn't think you'll make it to the hospital in time!

Also before you decide defo research home births in your area. My hospital can only send a midwife out to assist with home births Monday - Friday due to staffing challenges. That made me rule them out for me personally x

Had home birth for my second baby 10 weeks ago & im so glad I did , future babies I would definitely do it again , it’s much calmer , felt more relaxed at home as I had my eldest with me too , my labour was around 10 hours this time round felt much more intense but I’m not sure if that’s because he was a big baby. Everything went well , I had to have my water broken because my contractions were coming every 20-30 secs so I wasn’t having a break and it was slowing it down but after that baby came super soon after ! Placenta came without injection this time. Only thing is that for some reason as my waters were broken I passed 4 large blood clots but all was fine neither me or baby needed to go to hospital. No tears , overall was a really great experience 💖only thing I’d do differently is I’d have a pool like I did my first baby

I had a home birth last year with my third child. I had a doula to educate myself and my husband on it. It was my quickest labour. I am only 5 mins drive from the hospital so I knew if we needed to transfer in I would be there in no time. My home birth team were very supportive and the hospital delivered gas and air canisters before the day. I didn't even use them. I actually have ended up having a BBA (birth before arrival) because I didn't realise that baby was coming until my body was pushing itself.

How far are you from hospital? I planned a home birth for my first, but ended up being transferred due to prolonged rupture of membranes. I fully dilated and pushed for two hours at home, which was amazing, and the ambulance transfer was seamless. The home birth midwives had a discreet resuscitation station setup for baby, so everything would’ve been fine had she not been sunny side up and stuck in the canal too long! I ended up needing an episiotomy to speed things up to prevent her getting distressed. So although I didn’t have a home birth, hopefully that’s helpful to know what would happen if you did need the hospital!

I had a home birth with my first and it was stress free and easy. When you look at the science you're actually statistically safer giving birth at home to baby no.2 than you are in hospital. Main reasons for transfer to hospital are for additional pain relief. I had 2 additionally qualified midwives present throughout my birth and both were amazing, far better care than I'm told you get in hospital. Then spent the rest of the day cuddling in bed ❤️. We were only 5mins from the hospital but now our maternity unit has closed for baby no.2 I am 45mins from the hospital. I am slightly more concerned about this but not as concerned as the potential lack of care from going to the now extremely stretched hospitals covering our maternity services. I know I will get the absolute best care at home and there is so much knowledge of risk prior to birth and so many complications caused by stress from a hospital setting. I didn't realise how rare it was to have such a simple birth story until I met other mum's ❤️
