Please no judgment! FTM here and wondered if anyone else feels like this. I seem to have a complete inability to ‘go with the flow’. I have been in a routine with my baby from very early and I’ve been fortunate she’s always taken to routines. However I find when we go out of routine, for example if she wakes really early or refuses to nap, I just feel completely off track, unsettled, doubt myself and just think I must have done something wrong. Even though I know this is ridiculous and babies are unpredictable, I can’t help but feel like this and I’m so obsessed with her sleep even though she’s always been a good sleeper. She’s starting nursery on Monday properly and when she’s been there she’s been out of routine and also keeps getting colds so is constantly sniffly which is impacting her sleep. I need to learn how to cope better with these stages where she’s really unsettled and won’t sleep but I just get so overwhelmed and feel like I cope terribly and can’t just accept things for what they are and I’m constantly trying to ‘fix’ whatever is going wrong rather than just letting them sort themselves in their own time. Maybe it stems from being a complete perfectionist my whole life but I really want another child and wonder how I will possibly cope with more than one child and doing this all again. Hubby works a lot and leaves at 5am in the morning and back at 7.30pm 4 days a week so I’m doing morning routine /bedtime etc on my own the majority of the time. I don’t know what the point of this message is but I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest and see if anyone else feels similar?

It sounds like you could have OCD. Some cognitive behavioural therapy could help? My best friend has an OCD diagnosis and that therapy helped her a little

I can so relate to “I’m constantly trying to fix things rather than letting it sort itself out” I can’t let anything go when it comes to my baby, I research like crazy until I find the answer/ solution. My husband says it why she is doing so well, even though I probably get on his nerves with my obsessions haha

I have been a control freak my whole life and loved a good routine. But I dunno how, but I somehow accepted through pregnancy and labour that things are out of my control and I couldn't possibly have control over everything. And when my baby was not napping at all from 7 weeks, I was stressed but went along with it. I followed her, not the other way round.
That gave me flexibility and our routine was just chilling and go about our day. She sleeps when she needs to.
11months in and I am completely fine. Tired AF but fine.
Routine is with bedtime, always been strict with 7pm from 2 months of age and getting up after 8am. In between it's chill/madness 🤣
