What is everyone doing in terms of going back to nursery and work.i didn’t realise how much you lose by dropping work hours.
Lucky for us our nursery offer school day hours and NHS discount. However I will still be at a loss of approx £650 a month. My LO will be going to nursery for 3 days and I will need to drop 2 days as we have no other forms of support and cannot afford to take a further pay cut. We were toying with the idea of adding in an extra half day of nursery to make some extra money but it will be pointless as we will be at a loss of £11 but sending him to nursery. So financially we don’t gain anything.
I’m not sure what I am trying to get at, I think I’m having a hard time accepting that I’m having to take a pay cut which isn’t helpful at the moment.

I’m dropping from full time to part time, 5 to 3 days a week. LO is in nursery 2 days a week. It was either stay workin more hours just to pay for LO to be looked after by someone else or work out how we could financially afford for me to be at home more. It does feel hard to let go of the wage I worked hard to achieve but once LO is older I might be able to get there again!
I don’t think there’s ever a choice that feels good, whether it be not seeing your LO because of work or having to cut hours and feel the financial strain

When I went back to Work the first time, my daughter was only eligible for 15 funded hours a week. So I went back part-time on 28hrs instead of the 40hrs a week I was doing. So I was taking Home about £400-£500 less and then having to pay £400 a month on two days a week at Nursery with the funded hours.
This time both children will be eligible for 30 funded hours a week when I return. I’m still going back on 28hrs but we have switched to a childminder Instead of a nursery and for them to go two days a week means we have to pay nothing for childcare as it’s all covered! Perhaps see if there’s any childminders near you?
