Hi all, FTM here to a wonderful 5 month old girl. Been EBF since birth and now starting to think about weaning. My partner and I have both been vegan for about 10 years now and I’m a bit torn when it comes to introducing allergens to our LO during weaning.
Thinking it’s likely beneficial to expose her to some of the top allergens like milk and eggs when starting weaning but she then wouldn’t have any in our household for regular meals anyway so is there any point? Does anyone have any experience they can share with me? Just want to do what is best for baby! Thanks in advance :) 🙏🏼

Personally I still would because if she chooses to not be a vegan/vegetarian etc then at least you'll know that she's safe eating those foods

If you and your partner have been vegan 10 years that means you both had a lifetime of exposure to non-vegan products before you made the choice to switch over. Speaking as a child who grew up with allergies to so many different foods, please introduce all the top allergens to your child now. I understand the ethical considerations but also consider that even if they choose to be vegan/vegetarian in the long run, there is potential for exposure to cross contamination. they could have a life threatening reaction if they’re allergic to something. Allergies are so annoying and sometimes deadly. Research supports early introduction (but also OFTEN introduction). So it’s a hard one, I see why you’re asking the question. But this is the prime time if you want to do it for health benefits.

Been vegan for 15+ years now, I am feeding my little one a veggie diet (and have given her fish + shrimp once each) to keep dairy allergen in check just in case.
I think for children who are likely to try someone's birthday cake / ice cream / cheese sandwich etc... I'd rather be prepared :)
From 1 we'll be vegan at home and veggie / flexi (her only) outside.

Thanks all!

Everyone can develop an allergy at any point during their life time. Introducing dairy/fish/eggs once doesn't mean they won't develop an allergy in the future. Personally, I chose not to introduce animal products to my little one. Whatever you choose, will be the right choice for your family.
