To me fully potty trained is, being able to take themselves to the toilet or potty, no more nappies during the day and no accidents. My 4 year old can wipe her bum but I always just go in and check and do another wipe just incase, she's been potty trained since ages 2 years

Fully effective wiping and reliable wiping doesn't come for a long time afterwards in my experience. My 5 year old needs a check every now and then and I considered him to be potty trained at 2/3 when he could take himself to the potty, do his business and had no accidents.

Potty trained to me is they go potty on their own no accidents. Kids 7 plus still cant wipe themselves properly so the wiping part isn't really it.

i think when there’s no more accidents, not necessarily wiping on their own. some grown adults don’t even know how to wipe their ass properly but it’d be silly to say they’re not potty trained lol.

I consider it fully trained if they recognize that they have to go, and can reliably take themselves with no accidents. I know a 4 year old who cant wipe properly, and my 2 year old also knows that i have to take a turn wiping to make sure it was done properly. Tbf, reaching around to wipe properly is hard for little arms.

My boy is nearly 5 and I’ve stopped checking, but he does often need reminding to actually wipe

i recommend people not to wipe there children above 5 ish as i was still shouting for my dad/mum to wipe my bum till an older age because that’s what i was use to ..not that i actually needed it , i was fully capable of doing it on my own, it’s important you stop when you KNOW they can do it themselves otherwise it can make them being more independent about the toilet harder
