My LO is coming up to 7 months and have been struggling with breastfeeding for weeks (have ebf). Due to cracked nipples and sore skin.
Have been to the GP twice, they swabbed for thrush which I don’t have. Prescribed me cream anyway (I have very sensitive skin). My baby has been dribbling a lot from a young age, worse now with teething. Ensure area is dry and clean.
Getting no change for nipples to heal as baby feeding mostly 2 hrs during the day and can luckily go 5 hr stretches sometimes overnight.
Been to a breastfeeding support group to see if was a latch issue, they didn’t think it was (been twice).
I really would have stopped bf by now but my baby will not take a bottle or sippy cup well. Have tried few times now.
Would be giving formula as can no longer pump.
Sorry for the long winded post. Has anyone been in similar situation or any useful advice would be much appreciated.
Concerned now as LO has not put on much weight in 4 weeks since last weighed him.
have contacted the health visitor, just waiting for a reply. They are incredibly busy.

I bf to 13 months, my LG also wouldn’t take a bottle/sippy cup. I had a lot of issues breastfeeding early on but managed to overcome them, so I can’t really help much in getting onto bottles but do you by any chance use the vitamin D drops on your nipples for baby? They caused me a lot of irritation and when I stopped using the drops my nipples healed. Also Vaseline and silver cups helped heal them in between feeds x

I do use the drops. I will stop putting on and see what happens. Am using vaseline now. Can maybe try silver cups. Just wish cracked nipples would heal so wasn’t painful every feed.
Nice to hear you were able to carry on. I really want to carry on bf until baby gets to about 1

Oh I would definitely stop the drops then, especially if you have sensitive skin, they irritated me big time and I didn’t realise it was them causing the issue for ages. You can get the nhs healthy start vitamin drops that go on a spoon instead which I started using instead. I remember dreading every feed too because of the pain, I hope it improves for you soon and you can carry on feeding or you are able to find a way to introduce a bottle x

Try and see how weaning baby goes with mix of food and milk feeds.
Keep trying bottle or sippy cups. Try and get baby to drink as much as you can.
I have same issue with my little one..I give her a bottle every day. Sometimes she drinks 30ml and others it's 90ml. Most of the time I'm just wasting milk. But I keep trying.
I'm just hoping with weaning we can reduce the breastfeeding and hopefully she can move to bottle eventually.

First, call the national breastfeeding helpline! It’s free, 24-7 and number is online (they are experts)
Then try lansinoh soothies for your nipples. I was in the same situation for 6 weeks and it’s agony!! Also stop using lanolin if you are
It certainly can be a latch issue. Remember latch isn’t necessarily about the way it looks. If a bad looking latch feels comfy, great. If a great looking latch hurts you, it’s not a latch that works for you. So I would work on latching. What helped me was tucking the bum in as tightly as I could and moving my baby further down the body (as in, they have to tip the head back a little when latching). But work around with what feels good for you
Lastly what helped me also was to think that my baby is almost “showing” me the pain he feels because of his teeth. You can understand how awful the pain must be because now you are also in pain. Sorry, this sounds a bit weird. I hope you get what I mean ☺️
After fixing the issue, BF became nice again!

Is every 2 hours what baby is asking for? I think at 7 months I fed during the day only and maybe every 4 hours…
