Mucus cold

Hey guys, been to doctors & LO has a really mucusy cold & is 5.5 months old.

All in her nose, not on her chest thankfully, but she's struggling to sleep for long periods of time.

We're keeping her completely upright during feeds & whilst she's asleep, we've now got sodium saline drops & using infant vapour rub on her chest

Im using an electric aspirator, which is sucking out some but doesnt seem to help much.

Can anyone else recommend some products that work on their child to loosen or reduce mucus?

Hi šŸ’› About a month ago my baby was exactly like this (he was 7 months old) – very mucusy and struggling to sleep.

I took him to the GP twice and was told it’s quite common at this age and to keep him well hydrated.

What helped us the most (very common in Brazil) was nasal rinses with saline, not just drops. I used saline and a syringe to gently rinse his nose morning, afternoon and before bed. You can find videos on YouTube showing how to do it safely for babies.

After about 4 days he improved a lot, loads of mucus came out and his sleep got much better šŸ¤
Just sharing what worked for us.

My little boy is the same and I'd recommend the spray saline not drops as they help flush better

I like the sterimar ones x
And a calpol Vapor plug in

Heya we are currently going through this now. He was awful at night constantly waking up crying because he couldn’t breathe from his blocked nose. We was using saline drops and snot sucker and calpol plug in, but it still was bad.

We just bought the Vicks humidifier for the bedroom and oh my gosh I couldn’t believe the difference! We didn’t put the vapour pads in so it was just the humidifier but all night he didn’t have a blocked nose at all the last 3 nights and as soon as he woke up to come downstairs away from it, his nose was blocked so it 100% works.

I swear by the calpol plug in’s! Vapour bubble bath. Vapour drops on a muslin and the end on the cot, Sterimar nasal spray.

It’s awful! My 5.5 month old has had 2 colds. They just have to ride it out😭

New studies have shown that saline drop can reduce colds in infants by 2 days, so I’d keep up with that :)

Currently going through the same! Found that olbas oil on some cotton pads near bubbas crib during the night helped massively. Calpol 4 times a day, saline spray and nose suck before each bottle and nap and just lots of cuddles. Also found having a bath with a sink filled with boiling water and olbas oil also worked

Calpol plug in is great!

Thank you all! The saline drops seem to be working along with keeping her upright

Going to visit boots when she wakes up and buy everything suggested, something has got to work

Wish me luck šŸ™

Same as above, saline washes is helping us- we are visiting spain and had to take the LO to the doctors because he could barely breath and they told me to do it before every feed and sleep, but as for now on demand as he is so connected

My doctor told me to steam up the bathroom and take her in there for a few minutes we done it everytime we had a bath also when she was having naps on our bed we was putting the olbas for children on tissue and laying it under the duvet cover underneath her

Avatar

Thanks all, steamed up bathroom really helped, along with saline drops, vapour rub, calpol vapour plug in, electric nasal aspirator and calpol

She is doing much better and actually getting sleep (not so much for me, but that will come)

I've got a humidifier coming today which should help the final hurdle to her clearing up šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»

Thanks all for the advice & suggestions x

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say ā€œyou forget the pain once they’re hereā€ but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

It’s my birthday tomorrow.

Ok so I am going to be 35 years young. I can’t believe how much this life has thrown at me but it’s okay I’m a survivor. I am truly blessed to be alive. šŸ„³šŸ§šŸŽ‚ The only downside is I won’t be celebrating my birthday because my man can’t take me out. So many emotions right now.

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?
