I think the guidance is about 6 months and no longer than 20 mins at a time. Babywearing UK is a good Facebook page to use they have consultants on there that offer free advice x

I'm a trained baby wearing peer supporter. There is lots of discourse about forward facing online. The general consensus from respected sources is that forward facing can be quite over whelming for babies, and as they can't turn their head and hide away in the safety of your chest, they can become upset. There isn't any official research or guidance on this but it's the general thoughts from baby wearing consultants and institutions.
In terms of safety, you need to make sure that the carrier offers forward facing, that the baby's chin is completely clear of the panel, and if they get sleepy you must turn them in towards you and never let them sleep facing out.
In terms of age, 4-6 months in the general guidance, and for short periods of time, about 20-30 minutes. Be aware it puts more strain on your body as the weight is distributed differently, and depending on the carrier can put baby in a more uncomfortable position.

I agree with Charley and would add that maybe back carrying or hip carrying can be great alternatives. Letstalkbabywearing has lots of great info on instagram and YouTube :)

Generally it’s recommended around 6months

Dang this is good to know! I didn’t realize there were recommended standards for baby carriers!
I did however wait until my baby could hold their head up and they wear big enough to show part of their chest in a smaller carrier we had. I was afraid the material would choke her if she wasn’t tall enough. In the bigger carrier we had it took a while longer before I felt she was tall enough to be forward.
Any time she started to doze/nod off I would turn her so she would have head support available.
Although I was more afraid of baby wearing during the first few months. But i just stayed alert and checked babies face frequently.
