Anyone else have their baby measuring on the 6th centile at 20 and 22 weeks pregnant.

So at our 20 week scan we were told baby girl was on the small side and that we’d need to come back to check her growth (and aslso get two more scans on the heart as she was being a pickle) and if she’d shown growth all appointments with my midwife would be as usual but if she hasn’t I’d be put on clinic.
Anyways We had that follow up appointment yesterday at 22 weeks 3 days and was told she was still measuring small but has had growth since the last appointment but she was still on 6th centile but it wasn’t the 5th (so I’m assuming being 22 weeks and baby being on 6th is a good sign not really sure but she didn’t say anything about it being bad just good she isn’t on 5th) and they were happy with everything else and that she was healthy.
However we do need to go back in a further two weeks to check her growth is consistent for her size but nothing was mentioned about clinic so assuming because she had grown a bit that meant clinic wasn’t needed.
now being a first pregnancy I am overthinking stuff 😅 and I’m not necessarily worried as such as she is healthy but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same where baby was on the 6 centile but healthy and has shown consistent growth at later scans and or if later on other things have occurred. Also at how many extra scans you’ve had due to baby being small as we were told yesterday when babies measure small they do like to keep an eye on them so not really sure what to expect with amount of extra scan appointments etc.
I don’t mind a small baby was actually relieved in a way I wasn’t having a giant 😅but obviously as I’m new to all this thought 6th centile seemed rather small considering the majority measure on the 10th at 20 weeks

My baby is measuring on the 5th percentile and I’m 24 weeks pregnant, I go back every 2 weeks for scans her long bones (femur and ulnar) are measuring below the 1st percentile. I had an amniocentesis at 20 weeks to see if there was any medical reason for her being so small but all results came back clear. They then queried a problem with the blood flow in the umbilical cord as it showed intermittent blood flow but this has since improved and become normal. So they do just think she is a small baby and maybe she’s just meant to be small due to genetics and me and her dad not being very tall (5’3 & 5’9). The majority of babies at 20 weeks are over the 10th percentile, the offer extra scans etc if below the 10th (below the 10th is considered small). I’ve been filled with worry too but starting to feel a lot better as although she’s tiny she’s growing accordingly and plotting along the graph nicely. I’ve been seeing fetal medicine every 2 weeks. Hope this helps🩷

I had my 20 week scan last week and measuring 8th percentile. They reassured me that it may just be midwife measuring wrong but had another growth scan on Monday to check all OK. We were asked to research if small/petite babies run in the family (which we've found out they do) so we are hoping its a genetic thing. Definitely makes you worry as your not sure what's going on until next appointments.
I was told 10th percentile is just the average and what is used as a guide but not all babies at 20 weeks hit that mark. Try not to worry (easier said then done, I know)

I know quite a few people with small babies. My sister in law said her baby’s femur length could mean he was a dwarf- he’s absolutely fine. Both her children were and still are small but healthy. I also have a friend who had two kids who were “normal” sized and her third is tiny. She’s just little, she’s healthy and progressing normally but smaller. I think they will be more interested in “is she growing adequately from this point?” vs the percentile she’s in. I totally get why this is stressful though!

My girl was measuring small and was born the the 2nd centile. She was super small but healthy , she is now 2 and a half and she is on the 25th and very happy :) . I am 22 weeks with baby 3 and he is on the 95th centile . Doesnt make sense 🥹

Hey, I had a baby born 0.3 centile when born at 40+2, he was measuring small from 28 weeks and they ended up pulling me in for scans every 2/3 weeks with the last few appointments including monitoring for up to an 1 hour. Also, just to make you aware there is the potential that they will steer you for an induction before 40 weeks towards the end , I naively didn’t realise this could end up being the end game for me and was very upset that they sprung it upon me at the 11th hour (I declined at 37 weeks and said I wanted to hold out on the induction post his due date which i did)! I’d just ask lots of questions at your next appointment regarding what your current situation means for you and your birth plan etc., chatgpt is really good at coming up with appropriate questions to ask if your not sure what kind of things to ask! Hope this helps a bit, and a small baby is definitely no reflection on how they develop and grow once they’re out! Xx

I'm surprised everyone is having scans for small babies but I was not offered any 👀
I'm going to bring this up next time.
Mine is 6th percentile for head, the rest somewhere around 20%. They didn't mention any growth scans or nothing.

Is this normal??

I’m 29 weeks pregnant and having really aching legs and they’re all lumpy and swollen. Above the knee and behind the knee . Should I be worried ? My legs have never looked like this up until a few days ago. ??

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Doctors appt horror stories

I got peed on at my one month olds doctors appointment and I wanted to see if others had similar experiences. It was just hilarious but also like whyyyy! Also jeez those doctors seem to be so rough when they’re pressing on the baby’s stomach and just moving them around checking their muscles and stuff.
