I am classed as overweight and have a small apron belly due to excess weight/loose skin on my stomach. I tend to carry all my extra weight here.
I’ve had 1 previous pregnancy and this time,I am booked in for an elective c section due to baby being breeched and previously suffering a 3rd degree tear.
I’m worried that my scar will not heal well under my belly. I’m also worried about an increased likelihood of infection.
Has anyone with an apron belly had a c section? How did it heal? How did you keep it dry? Was the incision made right under your belly?

I am quite overweight and had a c-section. So the first week I had a special dressing with a pack that sucked the dressing to the skin to avoid moisture. Unfortunately my wound did get infected 3 times and I needed cream and antibiotics. My advice is pat the wound dry (after the dressing is off) every hour in the day to keep it as dry as possible. It’s healed well now though, still get a bit of pain from it but overall I’m happy. The incision was right in the crease of my tummy under the apron if that makes sense. As much as it got infected and it was painful, if I have another I will 100% have a c-section again. I would recommend keeping a close eye on infection and reddening of the skin as I kept saying to my gp it feels infected and they didn’t believe me then I had quite a severe infection. Good luck and congrats on your second bubba x

I have an apron belly and also had an elective c-section (best experience ever by the way!). Infection & keeping the area dry was a huge concern for me, especially considering I didn’t have any type of dressing on my incision, but I did a few things that really helped with a smooth recovery and thankfully avoided any issues. I’d try my best to keep cool to avoid any sweat in the area, I’d allow the area to air dry or I’d use a hairdryer on a cool heat setting to dry the area before getting dressed (recommended by my midwife). I also used to apply gauze on top of my incision so between my incision & my apron belly to help keep things dry and I found this really helped! I only did these things for a few weeks at most and then I felt like they weren’t necessary anymore and I healed perfectly. Good luck with your c-section & healing, I hope you have a great experience 🥰

I was overweight when I was pregnant, I had an unplanned c section & my overhang seemed so bad when it was swollen & healing. But, honestly it's healed so well. They took the dressing off the next day in the hospital. Don't re-cover it with anything. It's not recommended. Just make sure it gets some air & make sure it's well dried after getting it wet. I would pat it dry & let it have some air. I wore big granny pants but made sure they were just cotton & pretty loose & high waisted. They went up to my belly button lol you have to be careful because normal pants will sit on the scar and you won't want anything touching it like elastic. My best trick is leave it alone, don't touch it! I'm nearly 10 months pp and I don't even have an overhang anymore and it's still a tiny bit tender if I really pressed it hard but it healed amazingly well. After surgery if you need to cough or anything press a pillow into your stomach & you need to take it easy. The first few days are quite hard

I had a Pico dressing and it was perfectly healed within the week. X

I have an apron belly and had an emergency c section with my daughter, safe to say I was never informed on how to properly look after the scar while healing, so I NEARLY ended up with an infection which I was super paranoid about, went to the walk in centre and they said it wasn’t infected and just to keep it dry, it was really rashy and sore so my partner started to clean it with salt water twice a day to bring the rash down and 3x a day I’d make an effort just to lift my belly and let it air out, once it stopped hurting enough to wipe I’d give it a gentle wipe with some toilet roll every time I’d go toilet just to keep it dry as I got so paranoid about it
