I developed Pancreatitis due to a gallstone blockage. I was hospitalized for two nights. Upon discharge I asked the doctor who was on my care team for oxycodone to bring home for PRN. He told me “no need for the big guns! Just take Motrin”
I’m home now and I’m having pain. Mind you they were giving me fentanyl and Dilaudid. Anyways the any interaction with this doctor was very hostile. He would talk to me but it sounded like he was yelling at me. He wouldn’t shut the door to discuss my case he would just shout it for everyone to hear out in the hallway.
Am I in the wrong? And is there a way I can get the Oxycodone that I need for home? I haven’t slept very well and have been in a lot of pain. I didn’t feel like making a big deal of it at the time. But now I’m regretting not stepping up for myself.

call your PCP, tell them you asked for stronger pain management and they refused. and that the current course of pain management is ineffective. tell them you can’t sleep/eat/function because of the pain your in. women’s pain is unfortunately not taken very seriously in the medical field and we need to fight like hell for it. if this happens to you again and a doctor refuses to give you medication you ask for, ask why, and if it still doesn’t make sense, ask for it to be noted in your chart that you had asked for the medication and it was refused by the doctor. that way there’s record of the doctor refusing treatment.
thank you for your reply 💛
It is so true that Doctors don’t take woman’s pain seriously. Yeah I can push out a baby with no epidural/pain medication but damn when I’m having a medical issue the doctor says “no need to bring out the big guns” like seriously? I can barely pick up my Daughter because the pain is so bad. Sleep is out of the question. So I just sit in pain and misery.
I have an appointment tomorrow with my PCP and I will for sure tell her what’s been going on since I was discharged from the hospital.
