CMPA

Does anyone’s baby have CMPA & explain how you knew?

My baby is 6months in 2 weeks. Since 3months old my EBF baby has had really runny poos (originally thought these were connected to her vaccinations), however now she is also passing lots of gas and extremely smelly.

She’s always had reflux and now her skin seems to be a bit sensitive - in a cycle of trying to moisturise dry skin and then getting a rash with the products.

My HV doesn’t think it’s CMPA as she is generally a happy baby and putting on weight fine, 75th centile & always followed this.

My eldest was about 16weeks when she was diagnosed, and my youngest 3 weeks. All the same symptoms as eachother
Extremely fussy when feeding and after feeding
Constantly needing to be held upright
Bloated belly
Bumpy rash and blotchy and slow weight gain
Very runny poos and vomiting xxx

if she’s EBF you need to trial being completely dairy free and see if you notice a difference for her. my daughter didn’t show ‘classic’ signs of CMPA (mainly constipation) but she was clearly uncomfortable and when i spoke to a doctor at my GP practice, she told me that the dairy free formula tastes like shit so why would i want to feed my daughter it when i asked to trial it. it was actually my health visitor who got us a trial for the milk and low and behold, she had CMPA and still does at almost 3 years old.

side note but reflux is a symptom also, not something standalone so there’s something causing it. have her checked for tongue tie etc, if this isn’t the case then it is likely that it could well be that she has an allergy to something as that can also cause it.

My wee one was combi fed. She projectile vomited after each formula feed, you could tell it was a reaction. And a blotchy rash that was mostly on her chest. She also dropped 4 centiles to well below the lowest. It was quite clear signs when formula fed but difficult to tell after a breast feed. Having said that, your instincts are the best guide so if you think it’s something, keep at it! I also struggled with the HVs and GPs, so good luck! I hope you get to the bottom of it.
