Three months in both hands, I’ve been wearing supports on & off on both which doesn’t seem to achieve a lot. So painful now. How are you meant to rest them whilst caring for a huge baby. Any one with any advice would be lovely please. Xx

I had this. 4 months in i could barely hold him and couldn't grip a plate. My doctor told me I needed to introduce formula alongside breastfeeding. I was not happy about it but one bottle a day made a difference.

I don’t have any advice but I’m with you. My boy is 4 months on Thursday and he weighs 17lb 4oz and is 67cm long. I’m only small and petite. It’s killing me. I can’t carry him around a shop or put him in a baby carrier because it hurts so bad after 5 mins 😭

I have this awful pain but not sure if mine is mommy’s thumb or carpal tunnel syndrome. What I do to relief the pain a bit is keep my thumb towards the centre of the palm of my hand, slow circles exercises and sometimes I hold my baby avoiding using my fingers wide open.

You should get referred to Physio as they can give advice on exercises that will help.
I had this really bad with my first and ended up needing a steroid injection, they don’t like to do those as they’re not without risk and aren’t always successful, but it’s the only thing that worked for me.
I didn’t get it second time around! But my first was a much bigger baby 🤷🏼♀️

I've had it for the last five months. It got better after I got some recommendations from a doctor. Try applying anti-inflammatory gel (I'm using Voltarol 2%) on the affected area 3-4 times a day. I wore hand splints but found it difficult to handle the baby or do the chores with them on. I also did physio exercises twice a day. It's important to change the way you pick the baby up. Try to scoop them up and avoid having your thumbs sticking out. I am not keen on steroid injections, hope I don't have to do them

Reason was because apparently it was hormones so taking one bottle of formula helped reduce them. This time I used a thumb support rather then wrist based and its also helped!

Thanks everyone that’s really helpful. Just wondering if we’re all breastfeeding? thinking of Jo’s advice to try one bottle of formula. Is breastfeeding a big baby a major contributing factor. I was going to start pumping for a back up supply but perhaps not.
