Abuse isn’t just physical!

I feel that not enough people realize that abuse isn’t just physical.

Emotional abuse is real.
Mental abuse is real.
Financial abuse is real.

What’s worse about emotional and mental abuse is they don’t leave bruises. And so many abuse survivors share their stories but if there is no physical abuse the survivor is invalidated. Shamed for not trying hard enough. It keeps victims stuck in deadly situations.

So let’s change the narrative. Domestic abuse isn’t just physical. Let’s normalize leaving because of emotional and mental abuse! 🫶🏻

I would honestly rather be physically harmed than mentally as with emotional abuse it rarely fully heals. It affects us long after exposed to it. Where as physical scars/cuts/bruises heal and leave us with more of a resentment towards the abuser. When emotionally abused it tends to in fact cause us to question our own selves and our self worth. Appearance etc. I have honestly been through more types of abuse/ trauma over the years then some people go through in a lifetime. I now have been diagnosed with ptsd. Anxiety , as well as 3 types of major depression due to the trauma I’ve endured in my life. The sad part is . My daughter’s father was my best friend even after we had ended our relationship and moved on with our lives.. if there were one man i would ever feel safe with it would be him, sadly love just wasn’t enough.
