I will be going back to work in September full time (9 - 5 Monday to Friday). I'm using government funding to put my LO in nursery 2 days a week but it's an extra £900 a month to put them in for the other 3 days (not something I can afford) and there's no family that can help out.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I'm thinking I'll have to leave my job for something part time but I really don't want to have to do this if I can help it. Please tell me I'm not the only one in this predicament 😅

Could you condense your hours? I do 4 days a week and add an extra 1.5 hours and do half hour lunch. Then for pick up and drop off could you and your partner alternate somehow?
Also sometimes childminders can be cheaper? Can you look at that?
Also are you away that you also get tax free childcare which gets you and extra 20% off the cost? X

I'm requesting to go down to 4 days for this reason. Hope you get sorted 🤞

As the 30h funding covers only 38weeks while nurseries setup prices over 51/52 weeks, there is a huge gap between 3 days child care prices and adding more 1 or 2 days…
You could apply for the childcare tax free which gives you additional 20% discount (cap ~£166 per month) on top of the funded prices. Keeping 3-4 days becomes way more affordable than 5 with both helps combined.
I’m considering with my husband to get 4 days in the nursery and the 5th day we both work half day to cover. We can spread the missing hours of the half day on the other 4 (just +1h extra per day) and continue on full time jobs.
