I’m 37 weeks and only just started harvesting colostrum. I’ve expressed both boobs and only managed to get 0.1ml. Is this typical for the first time? I don’t know if that’s normal or too little.

I had exactly the same and I tried to do it more each day but I wasn't getting much more. Last night I tried again and got maybe 0.3ml but it triggered a contraction so I stopped. I spoke to a friend who is a lactation consultant and she said it's completely normal and she actually couldn't get anything before birth but went on to breastfeed successfully for 2 years per kid 🫶

I went to a group yesterday and they spoke about colostrum harvesting. They said it's so normal to get only a small amount if anything at all your first time and to just keep trying everyday! She actually said a lot of women aren't able to get anything before baby comes but it doesn't mean you will have issues with supply etc once your milk comes in so don't be hard on yourself if you don't get much! Xx

I got nothing with my first pregnancy. My nipples never leaked and I could never get any colostrum despite how many times I tried. Baby fed just fine after he was born and my supply was great so not going to bother to even try this time around xx
