Im a FTM and my 7 week old has just been put in her harness today for hip dysplasia. I am distraught over it. She has been suffering from colic over the past few weeks and no one has been getting any sleep. I feel completely overwhelmed and worried by this harness in addition to the colic. We were told when she was born it was very mild and had a scan at 2 weeks old which they advised leaving a month to see if it would sort itself out. I felt optimistic by this and felt positive however, today we received the bad news that I wasn’t prepared for. They say her hip is stable and that is positive. Looking for some support and positive stories. Right now I feel like I need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe and also how can they fit in the car seat?

Awh I feel for you, that initial distress is awful but I’m at the other side of it now and honestly it does get better. I bought some of the hip dysplasia sleep suits from Next but if you just buy larger vests and larger button baby grows it’s fine. Also I put dresses and long socks on my little girl. She was 8 days old when she went into her harness and got it off at 9 weeks. You do get used to it it’s just the until adjustment. I would also recommend getting the mustela no rinse cleaning foam it’s great for freshening them up as they can’t get a bath. Also roll a blanket under her legs when she is sleeping this holds her legs. After around 1-2 weeks she will sleep better. My little girl actually still sleeps with her legs out and she has been out of the harness for 4 months

They fit well in the car seat, it's just not recommended for long distances. I have a kiddo that the harness didn't work for but 6 more weeks and the spica is gone. I laid my kiddo on top of a pillow for sleep, it was the only way she was comfortable. Clothing wise we did a body suit underneath and and a plain tshirt over top. This helped with any rubbing the harness caused. We were told that as long as we marked where the harness straps should be we could briefly (like 5 minutes) take her out to clean or change clothes only one limb at a time though

Aww I feel for you. My baby was put in it 3 weeks ago. I was a wreck over it. I think I cried more than him Lol. He was especially uncomfortable the first 2 days and then he got used to it. I bought new swaddle/transitional sleep sack from Love to Dream. It’s made for babies with hip dysplasia so it’s wide enough. This was also a blessing in disguise because we were able to have him graduate from swaddle to sleep sack during this time

I do take it off every once in awhile for a few mins a day or every other day even though doctor wants it on 24/7. It gets easier as time goes on. I agree with comments above! Roll a blanket under legs for comfort and knee high socks. It’s a big adjustment but 3 weeks has flown by for us. He gets assessed next week and I’m hoping he can get it off by then.
Also we wrap plastic bags (like doggy poop bags) around his feet when we change his diaper when he poops. Sometimes his feet flail around and goes into the mess
And he does fine in the car, we just don’t keep him there for long
Sending love! It’s def a hard adjustment, I was a wreck for a week. Stay strong mama!
