For more context I’m 27 weeks today Thursday the 26th March! I went into Maternity assessment on Monday just gone as I was just worried about little man’s movements after being there on the monitor it went green, they did a quick scan said he seemed fine and they could see the waters were good etc! Anyways I had given them a urine sample and I’ve now had the results back saying I’ve got a uti and then something else saying group b strep? I’m now laid in bed worrying my head off, they have told me to collect some antibiotics today but I’ve got my glucose test currently fasting I go into the midwife’s at 8:40 will it be fine to collect after that and I guess I’m just sat thinking is everything gonna be okay? Sorry my minds just going everywhere at the minute

Hi! Midwife here! Group b strep is a bacteria we all have in our system (normally in our intestines), the only difference is that some women get a “transportation” of this bacteria to their vaginas during pregnancy and that means you’ll need to take some antibiotics in order for your baby to avoid getting the bacteria on their mouths during birth because that can cause some complications. It’s as easy as taking some antibiotics during birth (at least that’s how we manage that in Spain, unless it causes a UTI, in that case, we treat the UTI and also give some antibiotics during birth).
It’s nothing major, really, it’s very common.
Do not think too much about it, since there’s nothing you can do other than taking care of the UTI and wait till birth :)
