Alcoholic drink while breastfeeding

I’m exclusively breastfeeding my almost 6 weeks old and what are your thoughts on having a drink or two with a meal? I’ve not had a drink in almost a year and I’m now starting to fancy a drink with meals out. I feel a little guilty and also worried I’d be doing the wrong thing…

Depending on the drink/amount. You can calculate how long you have in between feeds. You can obviously pump and have a stash to give a bottle if you want more than 1. But it's roughly 1.5-2 hrs per standard drink x

I've had a couple of glasses of wine, and it's fine! I spoke to my HV and she said it's fine to have 1 or 2 glasses as less than 1% of the alcohol enters the milk x

You’ll be absolutely fine having a couple of drinks with a meal. As above, the % that makes it into your milk is absolutely tiny. You don’t need to overthink about spacing feeds, don’t need to pump and dump, or bottle feed expressed milk if you don’t want to/can’t.

As long as you can safely hold your baby you can have a drink. There is no evidence to suggest that it has a detrimental impact. I drank whilst breastfeeding. My friends were round yesterday and she had a pint and couple glasses of prosecco. You know your limits and you know at what point your not safe to care for your baby. A couple at dinner won't change much.

If you can safely hold your baby you can safely feed your baby just don't cosleep,

The rule is if you are sober enough to drive (legally) then u are safe to breastfeed. Anything over the legal driving limit then u need to wait 2-3 hrs before feeding

Ive drank throughout breastfeeding. 1-2 drink when he was younger, hes 18 months now and I'll have more now (e.g. 3-4 drinks if we are having people over). From what I've read its such a small amount that enters the milk its really not a huge deal, but of course you have to use your own judgement and what you feel comfortable with. I do sometimes feel guilty about it, but then I also want to be able to enjoy myself with friends and I love a glass of wine!!
