Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to transition to cot naps rather than contact naps? My 8m old has constantly contact napped since about 2m old as he just either won’t transfer or sleeps less than half an hour then it’s a challenge to get him to have any longer if he’s in his cot.
We don’t co-sleep. He loves his cot at night and sleeps 7-6:30 in there, he is cuddled to sleep but once he transfers he rarely needs help when he stirs slightly. Has anyone been through his and managed to get decent cot naps? I’m just worried that when I go back to work it will make it difficult for both nans and then eventually nursery if he continues to only contact nap

For us personally we do the same routine for day naps and night time. The room is all dark, his projector lights on and his lullaby music. I rock him to sleep in the dark bedroom then transfer into the cot. I keep the music playing while he sleeps. When he stirs I leave him to self sooth (as long as he’s not crying). If after 5 minutes he’s still awake I’ll go and get him out of bed. X

I was thinking the same as you but the staff at our nursery said to not worry about stopping contact napping. They said kids just adapt and will learn to sleep in a cot there x

My son is the same has only ever contact napped or in the car and the occasional pram nap and has always woken on transfer if we tried
He seems to be getting better at falling asleep on his own in the pram so we had a go today I laid in bed with him and fed him to sleep then moved him across to his cot and he stayed asleep for 30 minutes which has never happened 😂 I can only assume the grow out of it as they get older!

My 8m is also the same, naps fine if in the car or pram, she usually sleeps good on a night 7-7 most nights however she contact naps during the day if we are at home, very rarely I’m able to transfer her. My eldest also contact napped when she was a baby she just grew out of it.

I came on here to write this exact post 😂 for some reason she wakes between every sleep cycle in the day and is so much happier on two long naps but I worry in the cot they’ll be really short without us to help connect them but she does so well overnight!

Hey, so I tried this the last two days, I found day one when I fed to sleep and transferred we got a short nap, but today I settled her in the crib and she did 1hr15!
