Getting back in shape postpartum

Hey guys I’m 4 months pp, and trying to get back to my pre pregnancy body. I know it won’t be the exact same. I do have some worries. I still look pregnant, it’s a lot better than previously. But I have a lot of excess skin in my tummy area. Will that tone up? Or will I be left with a flap of skin when I lose the weight?

I feel like everyone is different so it would be hard to answer. Some people look like their pre-pregnancy shape very quickly I.e in a week or two. Whilst for others it might take 9 months with work.

Maybe discuss with a doctor any concerns you have or a fitness trainer with pregnancy/postpartum experience.

I think slow and steady wins the race when it comes to postpartum fitness/weight loss. Give yourself a good year or two to get to your desired fitness level or body shape. It took me around 2 years to get back to my pre-pregnancy body after each child and after having my 3rd, it will probably take me 3 years (I just don't make it a top priority). Focus on eating well, limiting excess empty calories (like soft drinks), and including exercise into your daily life. Toning will likely help with the excess skin, if the weight gain during pregnancy was not excessive. I also include a modified version of intermittent fasting into my lifestyle, but I suggest only doing this when not or no longer breastfeeding.

There isn’t really a race with postpartum bodies. Everyone’s recovery, skin, and hormones are different, and 4 months is still very early.

Your body is still healing, and skin can continue to change for quite a while. It really varies person to person.
