I have an 8 week old who is exclusively on breast milk, not from the breast and from the bottle. I pump a few times during the day and over night but I’m a bit lost with cleaning the pump.
I’ve been washing and sterilising in between pumps… is this necessary?
I’ve read about rinsing and putting the pumps in the fridge but does this need to be in a new ziplock bag each time. Very confused by it all and any suggestions on pump cleaning in between uses is welcome 🤗

I wash my pump parts with water n air dry it in between uses, works well for me

I can’t remember what age I started doing it but I put mine in the fridge between pumps in the day (my little one is just turned one but I’ve probably done this since he was a few months old, maybe 4/5 months). I don’t rinse them although there is conflicting information around this from what I have seen.

Regardless of the fridge method, you definitely don’t need to sterilise each time!

I just placed it in the fridge. No bag. I only washed once a day because i was pumping every hour and washing was too much.
Id buy a replacement set and alternated parts so one was always ready

I wash my pump with soap and hot water immediately after every use. I don't sterilize it anymore.

Breastmilk doesn’t have harmful bacteria in it like formula so as long as they’re washed and rinsed properly with soap and water you don’t need to sterilise. The bacteria that will be introduced will be from the environment so you can essentially treat them like any other household dishes, if you’d be comfortable licking it then it’s clean enough 🤣

Don’t put it in the fridge it’s so easy to attract bacteria. Wash after every use and sterilise once a day.

When I worked full-time and took pump breaks in the office, I’d rinse them in between pumps and put the parts in the fridge in a sealed ziplock bag. Changed out the bag once a day—pumped 2-3 times during the work day.
