Hi all! I need some advice.. my babygirl just turned 6 months old on the 10th and she still isn’t rolling at all, I’ve been worried sick about it, wondering if there’s a reason why she’s delayed. She still absolutely hates tummy time and has been doing the “swimming position” not long after being put on tummy time. Whilst on it she also just face plants the floor and starts crying. I literally don’t know what to do and feel like there isn’t any professional that I can go to because I get dismissed 😭

Okay i completely understand this. My girl was 6 months on 12th. Try not to worry as they all develop at different stages. Firstly I would like to say my girl hated tummy time. She would do the exact same thing and scream the house down. It was hideous. However does she contact nap on your chest, have you heard of the colic hold? These are things my girl did which counted as tummy time. She suddenly decided that when I put her on her back she would roll. Made us all so shocked as we didn't think she was anywhere near ready. Try and not worry (easier said than done, I know). She will roll beautifully when she is ready. I also used high contrast cards and books to get her head up also tummy time in the bath if you have one or local swimming pool! Hope this helps. Xx

She will do it when she is ready. Every baby does things at a different time. My little boy is turning 6 months next week and only started rolling a few days ago and now won't stop. He rolled from his back to his front and we didn't even expect it. A lot of babies work it out between 6-7 months

Just let her have floor time on her back and she will do it before you know it. Once she starts, she will be unstoppable!

Someone I know got her daughter to like tummy time just by getting her to lay on her legs and it then just clicked

Yeah, I would also just say, dont panic about it. Mine turned 6m last week, and she also hated tummy time, I only tried to do it with her every other day, as she only lasted 1-2 minutes maximum without going into a cry. And just last week, a few days before she turned 6 months, suddenly she rolled from back to belly and from there back to her back again...she did it pretty much when nobody was engaging or entertaining her, and that is us ever since, she now doesnt stop rolling. There was no indication that she could do it, no practice, nothing...she just did it suddenly. It will work when your girl feels ready for it, and it might start from back to belly first.

My daughter is 6.5 months and isn’t rolling yet. They’ll do it when they’re ready 🙂 She also hates tummy time! We just spend time playing on her mat and hoping she’ll just do it suddenly. Try not to stress, I’ve never met anyone who can’t roll 🤪

They all do it in their own time, however really reccomended following some paediatric physios on social media if you have it! They give great play tips for helping to encourage milestones.

Also, an important thing to note, babies will cry and get frustrated when learning a new skill because it is new to them and hard, that is just part of it and takes time. Don't be discouraged by crying, let it happen for a minute or so before intervening and just reassure with your voice. The 'swimming position' it's still building muscles! Free time on the floor is one of the best things for a babies development so don't feel anxious about too much floor time!

My LO is 6 months on the 21st and isnt rolling, sitting, grabbing her feet or anything! She seems to want her body to be 'straight' all the time and will straighten her legs and plant her feet into the ground so shes 'standing' at any chance she gets which makes it impossible to practice sitting as she just kicks out. She will kick about lots though so i know she is capable of bending them, she just doesnt want to! She also hates tummy time and will cry after a minute or 2. Have been worries about it but these comments reassure me that it could just happen any moment!

My first born didn’t roll til he was one. Folding walk til nearly two. Legs it round now. Second born has been rolling both ways since three months. They’re all different, try not to compare!
