Hi! My baby just turned 1 years old. My pediatrician says to start using sippy cups or normal cups instead of baby bottles as my baby is now becoming a toddler! As excited as I was, my little one is not excited at all. So much so he is now eating less of his solids when he should actually be eating even more than his previous amount.
Mothers online (Reddit) claim to have gone cold turkey and got rid of all baby bottles and the baby transitioned between 2 to 3 days of doing so.
But my baby has rejected solids due to not having his “baba” (bottle) and I’m scared he will lose weight and become dehydrated. He does drink water but that not nutritious enough and a lot of hydration is through food too.
How should I help my new toddler transition from baby bottles to Sippy cups?

Well I can't say I used many bottles as I breast fed. I introduced a sippy cup at 6m for sips of water with solids to get her used to it. I used a weighted straw cup, TUMTUM ones we use. After we started weaning she rarely had a bottle after that. If she wants a drink I just started giving it in her TumTum cup rather than a bottle. Took her a little while to get the hang of it. Same with sippy cups at nursery because that's what she has there. Just had to get used to it.

We skipped the sippy cups and went straight to straws. Loved the bear cup on Amazon for training and now he drinks all day out of his Pura Kiki waterbottle

We introduced sippy cups/straw cups around 6 months and it did take a few weeks for him to get the hang of it. It may be a bit harder to break the habit at 12 months because they have such big opinions at that age! I would probably just stick with it and continue to offer it so that he gets used to it and it isn't so new. I would try to switch him over sooner rather than later though, continued bottle use can affect their teeth and oral development- hence the recommendations to start the switch around the time most babies start to really get more teeth (6-12 months).

Similar to I had already been introducing different types of sippy cups before 1. So by the time it was their first birthdays I threw away the baby bottles. I would just suggest trying to keep consistent as possible.

Mine is 4 and at school and has a baby/toddler bottle at bedtime....
Her teeth are great, the dentist couldn't tell etc. we tried to go cold turkey and for 3 days neither of us slept so we just gave it back. Do what works for you :)
PS. I hate seeing my child upset over a non-issue so I haven't persevered.
My first gave up his bottle and dummy on his own before 1yrs old but my second is very stubborn
