Hey moms š¤ I need help!
FTM here and Iām honestly so confused about breastfeeding. Iāve taken a few classes and they all say completely different things.
One says no bottles or pacifiers for the first few weeksājust breast only. Another says I should start pumping. I do want to pump eventually so my husband/family can help with feeds and I can get a bit of a break.
What did you actually do? Did you introduce a bottle early or wait? When did you start pumping?
Would love to hear what worked for you š«¶

What you will find is lactation consultants tend to be pretty against pumping early on to avoid an over supply..
Controversial but I personally think that turning down an oversupply is easier than trying to bump up an undersupply. I will be doing some pumping and using a haakaa early on this post partum.
Yes if you do pacifiers and bottles too early there is a possibility for it to mess up breastfeeding, latch, and preference. There is a sweet spot for bottle introduction though. I waited too long with my last baby and we STRUGGLED with bottles. Now my understanding is somewhere between 3-6 weeks old introducing a bottle and practicing a bottle a couple times a week is best.
You should pump everytime baby gets a bottle as if they were eating at the breast for your supply!
