I'm currently 12 weeks into my very first pregnancy and had my initial midwife appointment a few weeks ago. The 'consultant' told me that my BMI was slightly over 30 so there were additional things I needed to do such a weight management course so that I dont put on loads of weight - which has really scared me.
Just wondered if theres anyone else who's been through this and if baby was born ok?

This was not suggested to me and my starting bmi was the same. Plenty of women have healthy babies at various weighs, please try not to worry!
Also your body, your pregnancy please remember you have autonomy and choice in your care. X

You can tell them "no thanks"

Just to add, my BMI is 33.4 and has been the whole time through IVF treatment and through my first pregnancy, and now I'm pregnant again. There are some additional risk factors, but not enough to be scary! And, I did put on loads of weight. And then lost it all (25kg) within 5 weeks of birth and was back to my pre pregnancy weight within a couple of months. The weight i put on was a really large baby, 2 placentas, and I had excess fluid (polyhydramnios), and I was full of edema (swelling all over). I lost it all really quickly without trying at all, as it was all pregnancy related!

My BMI was over 30 at my first check up and I was never told to do a weight management course 🤔 I just had to do the diabetes test at 25 weeks. Baby was absolutely fine 😊

I kinda wish they'd offered me this as my bmi was borderline at booking appointment then my weight sky rocketed and I'm now consultant led high risk right at the end of my pregnancy. If they'd have offered help at the beninging I could have stayed low risk ... actually really pissed me off!
