Hi,
So I've always been underweight. My BMI is normally around 13.5, I'm currently pregnant and it has raised to 15 (I'm 9 weeks) so I've put some weight on already. I have had one baby already (14 months ago), but my weight increased quite rapidly in that pregnancy so I was at a healthy weight by the end of the first trimester (I'm currently 12 kilos less than what is considered a healthy weight). I eat really well, and my body weight is largely genetic (my mum's family are all thin). I've had a private scan already and baby is exactly as would be expected at this stage of pregnancy. I just really worry that I'm not gaining weight as quickly as I did in my first pregnancy, and it makes me worry for the baby. Does anyone have any first hand experience of gaining little weight in pregnancy despite being thin??

I would talk to your midwife or doctor about this for proper advice. I'm a PT but without knowing your body fat % and rest of your measurements I can't really comment. Low BMI can be indicative of low birth weight and premature delivery so I would be inclined to advise eating more calorie dense foods to get your weight up to be on the safe side. A BMI as low as 13.5 can also indicate low muscle mass which can cause problems for you later in life so after delivery I would look at trying to build muscle just for your long term health x
