My milk isn’t enough

The past few nights my LO he screamed non stop and fed non stop. I figured this was normal as witching hours and growth spurt as he is 3 weeks.

We have been combi feeding because my milk came through late and he was struggling to gain weight.

The past few nights I have mostly breastfed and given 2 bottles (90ml each) over 6 hours.

Tonight it has been 2 hours and LO has only has formula from my partner and is a lot more settled. It’s obvious that my milk isn’t satisfying him and I feel stupid for crying to my partner about the past few days (I dragged him back from work last night) and I also feel like I’m not good enough.

Really feeling like just packing in breastfeeding. Does anyone have any advice to keep morale up? I feed only from breast during the night and daytime but he still also needs formula in the late morning. Everytime he needs formula to stop the screaming it makes me feel like I’ve failed 😞

I know what you’re going through, but please don’t feel like a failure! It takes time for your milk to come through and to settle in. The most important thing is to keep your baby well fed, so either your milk or adding formula to the feedings. I would suggest to pump in the meantime so that your baby gets to produce more. If I have been doing it all, I wasn’t making much at first, so I HAD TO give my baby formula. I have been pumping from the day I gave birth and now that my baby is 3mo everything is going for the best! Bottles I’d suggest since you want to keep breastfeeding are Evenflo (wide neck), Lansinoh, Pigeon. They al mimic mama’s nipple, I wouldn’t use anything else tbh. It’ll get better, hang in there mama!🫶🏼

I went through this at 3 weeks with my LO as well. We did the same exact thing resorted to giving him formula once at night. I started pumping and that’s what we would give him at night instead of formula he’s not 8 weeks and wakes up at night to feed but we give him the bottle of breastmilk and it seems to have done the trick FOR NOW 😬

Thank you!! I have got a new pump and I’m getting 120-150ml per pump so I think I’m the evenings when he has formula I will spend that time pumping until we have a good supply to wean out the formula

Breastfeeding

I am feeling so deflated at the moment with breastfeeding… I am 3 weeks pp on Monday and been breastfeeding since the beginning. Had some problems with tongue tie which resulted in my nipples being very sore and cracked so moved onto pumping to let them heal. His tongue tie has now been sorted so been trying to latch him back on my boobs and his latch is so much better but having him on my boobs more has caused my nipples to become sore again as they have not fully healed from all the pumping. I have tried everything, nipple cream and silver shields. I am at a lost and not sure what to do!

Newborn trenches

How are people coping with the newborn trenches? I feel like I’m just trying to survive!

Baby is now 4 weeks old and I have barely left the house with her, I feel too nervous to go out by myself - I’ve only just managed to go a quick walk with her in the pram! Luckily she just slept as she does enjoy her pram and I’d assume the sensation when moving. I’m a first time mama and just find myself completely overwhelmed when I think about taking her out to a coffee shop, restaurant, or to the shops etc! And not only that - being unsure on what to pack!! how many bottles, nappies, change of clothes?? I feel so guilty not taking her out much so we tend to stay in a lot and I think that’s making me worse mentally, I wish I could be better at this. 😢

I wonder if anyone else feels this way?

Newborn stage!

What’s everyone’s fave part of the newborn stage ?

What’s the least fave ?

No judging just curious - I didn’t enjoy changing the nappy every 2 hours at night when she fed but I loved the little baby sounds they make when they are all brand new 🥹

Milton Cold Water Steriliser confusion

Hi guys, maybe I’ve been silly and made a mistake I’m not too sure. I’ve sterilised my colostrum collecting cups before using them, using the Milton cold water steriliser. The new guidelines now state to rinse off with drinking water after sterilising. I used cold tap water but now I feel silly. Am I supposed to use cooled boiled water? Will I now have to throw about the colostrum I have collected?
