Screen time

I have a 2 year old & a 9 week old. Our tv is on all day and my toddler falls asleep to a projector playing films on a night (nothing else works.) Through the day we have on cartoon songs on youtube but my daughter doesnt sit and watch it its more background noise and she'll occasionally stop and watch for a dance.

Does anyone else have a lot of screen time? No judgement please.

This isn't coming from a place of judgement because I do believe screens have their place in our world. But we do need to pay attention to the research that is telling us that excessive screen time is shown to have negative effects on children, particularly young ones. I think different kids have different limits and different parents have different goals and that's all good. But I would consider whether there are any swaps you could make to reduce the influence of the screens. Something like a yoto player or Tonie box could play songs without the videos, it could also potentially be an option for bedtime. I believe projectors are a way to help reduce the screen effects however I'm not sure that falling to sleep staring at a film is going to promote the best sleep. Maybe a light show with some stories playing could work instead? I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you've asked for and feel free to tell me to piss off! I just wanted to suggest a few alternatives in case you want to switch things up a bit.

She's been under the weather the past week so ms apple has been on constantly. I also watch TV when I'm going to bed and we co sleep! Don't feel bad mama, everyone watches TV!

Are playgrounds safe for a toddler?

My husband asked me to avoid our toddler playing outside this summer because he could get hurt.

I thought back to my 90s childhood and getting hurt (knee scrapes etc) was just part of being a kid.

Have we been gaslit into believe that playgrounds are safe for kids because we experienced it?

I’m torn, my son is so energetic and loves nature, outdoors and definitely bugs 🤮I really want him to continue to explore outdoors and freely for developmental purposes.

Guys I’m doing something that’s potentially kinda wrong involving a woman in my gym lol, do you think this is likely to play out in my favor?

So I had Aflac for my kids dental but I didn’t realize my husband I guess canceled or didn’t renew our policy, anyways after a few apts I got an invoice about dental bills, turns out I owe my kids dentist 2k. I didnt pay it yet because it’s just not on my short list of things to worry about lol, so fast forward a few weeks and boom I see my kids dentist at the gym, she owns the whole dental place btw it’s like her private practice or whatever, and I say hi and then lately every time I see her we end up chatting, i already told her I recognize her from her work and whatever but eventually after a few months and maybe some flattery and chumminess I think im going to tell her I have this outstanding bill and just see if she waives it 😅 also, not that I really need to add this but I could pay it outright right now, I just really don’t want to detract from my savings, I have a strict savings plan and my husband and I arent like brutally suffering but we’re def NOT well off. Every time I establish some savings it’s like disaster strikes, someone’s car goes out, random medical crap, etc. so I’m always anxious to touch it.

Working parents

How on earth do people actually work and have kids of school age 😥 by the time you have done the morning commute you are starting work late then you have to leave work early to go pick them up!! I actually don't know how people do it? School clubs are also first come first served each term so cannot even guarantee your employer the same hours each term!

Potty training early using elimination communication

Has anyone started potty training at around 8 months? We’re thinking about starting just to get him used to associating wees and poos with the toilet and will teach him to sign for potty. How did it go for you and how did you know to put them on for wees? Obviously we know he won’t be fully trained until much later

Am I justified in being upset/annoyed

I have just seen that my Dad has marked on the family calendar that him and I’m guessing my mum are going to a concert from 18:30 till late on the same date as my daughters 2nd birthday which is on a Monday. I feel like either they have just forgotten that that is her birthday or don’t care. Either way am I justified in being upset and annoyed that they have booked this on her birthday or am I being over sensitive?

Toxic relationship

My partner always tells me I do nothing and that all I do is take and that he pays for everything and I couldn’t afford shit without him. Our baby is 18 months old and im a stay at home mum who attempted to go back to work but had to quit due to the stress of unreliable childcare. I just don’t know what to do at this point I love him and I want to make it work but I just feel like I’m constantly making myself smaller to try keep the peace
