So my boy is 3 weeks Monday and isn’t a comfort sucker on the boob… he will only want it if he’s hungry… I’ve felt like a dummy would help settle/ soothe him so have started to introduce it….
I really don’t want it to hinder our BF journey so looking for tips on how to make sure he still feeds well… dummy’s are totally new to me.. so far my plan is always to offer breast first and once he’s finished with that offer the dummy.

If your baby is producing enough wet nappies/diapers, that's usually a good sign that they're feeding well. My daughter is 22 days old, and I was worried about her feeding too. People often say that babies should latch for at least 15–20 minutes, but my daughter usually feeds for no more than 10 minutes at a time. I also haven't given her a dummy (pacifier) yet because I feel she is still very young, and I'm concerned it might confuse her while breastfeeding.

I never gave my first a dummy but have this time. I never use it to stretch feeds or replace boob that’s where the issues come in.
I’ll use it to settle him in the car seat/ pram/ to get to sleep if he didn’t nurse to sleep and is wide awake. We use it for short bursts and he spits it out or we take it away.
Never use it in place of a feed or if you think baby is hungry.. always offer boob first then dummy x
