My son was recently diagnosed with autism at age 2, and I’m trying to understand whether the diagnosis fits his profile.
He has a significant speech delay but has also been exposed to three languages since birth. He responds to his name most of the time, makes eye contact, uses several signs to communicate, and will pull me to places or objects he wants. He is affectionate and engages with us, but he does not yet do much pretend play and has limited spoken language.
Has anyone had a child with a similar profile? Did you feel the autism diagnosis was accurate, or did things become clearer as your child got older and language developed?
I’d love to hear your experiences. Thank you.
