Telling work you are pregnant

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find any similar posts when I searched.

I am wondering when you all told your employers that you were pregnant. I am currently only 6w but the morning sickness has hit me like an absolute tonne of bricks, and I simply cannot face going into the office. Luckily I can WFH, but that should only be 2 days a week.

I didn't want to tell them until the 12th week, but I obviously can't keep ringing in saying 'i am WFH today because I am not well', as they think I am messing about.

What did you do?

Thanks

Just tell your manager to start with and ask can you wfh until the sickness eases off just ask that they keep it to themselves until your ready to tell everyone else. Once they know your pregnant they can’t really say ‘no’ so it’s best to let them know if your struggling x

Thanks Jessica, I think I will do that.

💯 tell them if you're struggling and need support, as maternity rights kick in from when you inform them AND they can't help if they don't know. It's not sickness as much as flexibility you need right now and it passes quickly in the first trimester between 6w-12w.

Legally you don't have to until around the 25th week - which is wild, how could anyone hide the bump that long!

I hope it all goes smoothly with work and the pregnancy generally.

I'm a fan of telling them as soon as you know and it's been fine for both of mine!

Once you tell them youre protected by law. If youre struggling just let your manager know and say you want it to be kept between you and them until youre ready.

I told my manager at 12 weeks but I didnt have morning sickness

I told my manager/boss around 6/7 weeks with all 3 of my pregnancies which am glad about as my first one ended in a miscarriage so my boss was able to offer me help and support. And my other 2 pregnancies I had really bad morning sickness and nausea to the point that my third was HG until around 20 weeks pregnant x

8 weeks as I was feeling like crap( missed miscarriage at 10 weeks so glad I told them, manager put me straight on compassionate leave for 2 weeks)

6 weeks as manager asked how I was and I couldn’t lie to the man( but I said I’m not Officially telling you until I’ve had a viability scan I’ve booked at 7 weeks).

Currently hopefully pregnant again, will be telling them at 7 weeks after another viability scan. I left work at 30 weeks from the pregnancy above and will probably do the same again. So I’ll tell you but in 23 weeks I’m off 😂

Hey, :) congrats on the pregnancy! I told earlier in my first pregnancy (12 weeks) and was very much given less opportunity and treated like I wasn’t capable (office based), hence this time I only told at 25 weeks, hard to hide the bump the last couple of weeks but managed it! I would say make a judgement based off your manager/job :)

I told my manager at 6 weeks as my nausea and sickness was so bad I couldn't travel to work. I'm really glad I did as my sickness carried on the whole way through so my manager really helped me out and worked with me to put good plans in place to help me through. They should also do a risk assessment!
