my newborn’s sleep patterns are all over the place and I'm not sure what’s normal. how long does your baby sleep at a time, and do you have any tips for helping them sleep in a bassinet or on their own? also, do you wake them up for feeds during the night or wait for them to wake you up?

I don't think they have much of a pattern. Mine slept pretty much the entire time but they can have wake windows anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. It's just dependant on your baby. They do a lot of growing when they are sleeping. In terms of waking depends on what you were advised by professionals. Usually guidance is not to wake them if they are developing well as generally they wake instinctively. Newborns normally eat every two to three hours maybe a bit more frequent for breastfed babies

How old is your baby? You should wake them in the first few weeks until they gain their birth weight back, once the midwife has signed this off you don't need to wake them. That's what I was advised and did.
