We brush our daughter’s teeth twice a day using fluoride free toothpaste. She was breastfeeding up until about 6 weeks ago and is 22 months. She does not have a bottle overnight. She hardly ever eats refined sugars and generally does have a healthy diet but does consume fruit numerous times a day. I noticed this black dot a few days ago and have tried cleaning it thinking it was food stuck but it’s not budging. She has been to two routine dentist appointments however they have never looked in her mouth as she just screams the whole time. How can this be a cavity? We brush her teeth the best we can, granted it is over quite quickly as she is normally screaming. I always brush it whilst she is laid down in between my legs with arms pinned down. Any advice please!!! I will obviously book another dentist appointment but I am feeling very sick at the thought of her having a cavity. My friends don’t even brush their kids teeth or lets their kids do it, how can this happen to my child when we have always been so through brushing her teeth.

Some people will be more prone to cavities just based on genetics and the position/shape of their teeth. I would see when your dentist has a next available appointment and get it checked by a professional but don’t jump to conclusions quite yet. Even if it is a small cavity they may choose to just monitor for now
