I'm booked in for an early pregnancy scan at 5 weeks and feeling really nervous. What should I expect to see at this stage? Would love to hear about others' experiences!

I had an early scan at 7 weeks with my baby. Don't be too disheartened if you don't see a heartbeat as I was told it's best to wait til 7 weeks to clearly see it. My baby looked like a peanut when my scan was done 😂 I was super nervous for mine as well as I had a previous loss but once I explained that to the nurses (they asked how I was and I burst into tears 😅) they were lovely and explained what was going to happen before they did anything so if you say that you are nervous they should be really accommodating ☺️

My early scan baby looked pretty much like a jellybean, my sonographer showed me where what was, n sometimes has a little sac attached. Might be too early to see a heartbeat, but they will let u know, if they don't see one then they might rebook an appointment for you

Unlikely to see much at 5 weeks it’s most probably far too early . Xx

Its nothing to be nervous about, a tip could be to shave beforehand because your pants are lowered to the upper pubic area, they apply a gel and then put the transducer thing on your lower belly having a full bladder helps them by giving a clearer view but can be quite uncomfortable, it feels like they are scanning your bladder the whole time and i think with mine when checking for an ectopic pregnancy it was just a small spec on screen.

They couldn’t actually find anything when I had a scan at around 5-6 weeks, however they took bloods to measure my HCG the next day and called me to say it had increased so much they’d like to retry, and there was a little sac! Basically a blob, hence the fetus (now 31 weeks) has unintentionally become known as Blob 😅 All to say don’t get disheartened if there’s nothing clear/not a heartbeat
