I went today for the 20 week full scan and anatomy and we did not get to hear the heartbeat (I had not asked to hear it as I was so wrapped up in “is the baby okay” that I forgot) I googled it and it said we should have done, what do I do?

Call your doctor- you can go back and get checked

Sometimes they don’t do it they just look at the heart and mesure the bpm but if you want to hear it u can usually ask they will
Play it for you. Should also maybe show you in the after care report.

I don't remember ever hearing the heartbeat at scans. The midwife usually does that.

The sonographer probably forgot to turn the sound on for you as the heartbeat is a really small aspect of the scan and they don't even listen for a full minute, it's just a few seconds. You should have a midwife appointment soon around 25 weeks and they'll listen to the heartbeat for a full minute and you'll be able to hear it too! If you're worried about it then you should always be able to pop into your maternity triage and ask them to just listen in quickly just for reassurance that you've actually heard it xx

Thank you both so much, he showed us the heartbeat and we could see it fluttering I just want to experience it all x

I didnt at 20 weeks either, not sure if you have to ask to hear it, you can always ask your midwife at any check up to hear it as well , and they’ll let you record it🙂

You don’t always. You sometimes hear the blood flow but not usually the heartbeat

Thank you all 🙌xx
