Mothers who work and have kid/s under 5 years old, what’s the maximum hours you work a week

I'm only asking this because, if you are a mother it's hard to balance work & childcare together unless you have support.
In the UK, the government only give 30 hours a week of free childcare. That means it's 6 hours a day Monday - Friday.
So it means as a parent, unless somebody else will collect your child from school, how will you work 9-5 a day?
You can't work full-time can you unless somebody collects your child from school

My daughter is starting nursery soon and me & my partner will basically be getting to work 20mins late and leaving 30mins early to do drop offs and pick ups. 😅
My mom will fetch her on the days that she can.

I work full time 40 hours but I work shifts so we use nursery 3 days, I have a midweek day off, I work Friday nights starting at 6pm and work Saturdays. Dad has Saturday and Sunday off x

I work 9-5 Mon-Fri, very fortunate that my work allows me to work from home 4 days a week. So I drop my kids at day nursery, get home work like a mad woman, and then pick them up. The days I go to the office I get in late and leave early but make up those hours on the other 4 days.
I am drowning in nursery fees but my youngests start school next September and it has been worth being broke af for years to hold on to my very secure and decent paid job.

I work 30 hours across 4 days, my lg is in nursery with her hours stretched across the year currently she’s 3 and due to go to school next September my job is in retail which gives me a couple of days off in the week and one usually at the weekend in a variety of shifts my husband works from home and he’ll collect her on my mid and late shifts. When it comes to school their will probably be a lot of after school/holiday clubs as I’m not sure how we’d do it otherwise

30 hours is part time and that's what I do. I'm in a trial at work trying out spreading the hours over 5 days rather than the 4 I used to do so I can get them from school 3 days a week.

The expectation is that you pay for additional childcare around your work. Whats difficult to understand about that?

I work full time but work the opposite days to my child’s dad, so we use our days off to be with our daughter and avoid needing childcare (except for one day a week where our daughter goes to a childminder). But my work times are flexible so when our daughter is at the childminder I’m able to drop her off and collect her and finish the last few hours of work once she’s gone to bed. I’ll be able to do the same when she starts school.

My husband and I both work full-time. We pay $255 a week for daycare and $145 a week for summer camp.

I work 30 hours over 4 days, do 3 days at nursery and we alternate doing drop off/pick up. And my mum does the 4th day. Many others at nursery do the full week and pay to top up.

We both work full time+. My husband works from home and I’m typically working 60+ hours a week.

Friends across the globe 🫶🏼

Looking for mums to be good friends with! I’m happy to be friends with people who are across the globe! I believe friendships online can be just a genuine as irl.

I’m dog crazy, usually a gamer, a bookworm and getting back into my fitness. I have 2 dogs, a cat, a step son and a 9 week old little dude.

I love long forest dog walks, paddle boarding, quality time with my family and coffee.

Oh I also swear like a sailor so please don’t take offence to it🫣😆

I think

I think the world would be a better place if it was run by women! I'm honestly sick and tired of these men.

I would love to see this in my lifetime but sadly don't think I will

Update, 3 years later

So this post went off the rails a bit in the comments, but I have an update on the original situation (TL;DR: new neighbours with kid the same age didn’t seem interested in a friendship. I was disappointed).

We are now friends! The kids naturally connected by running into each other outside and now we hang out regularly. The husband is still awkward and a bit standoffish, but the wife and I are developing a genuine friendship.

Good morning, everyone! 👋

Hope you're all having a lovely start to your day. Just wanted to pop in and say that sometimes, making new friends as a mom can feel a bit like trying to find a matching sock in a pile of laundry – tricky but totally worth it when you find the right one! If you're feeling a bit isolated or just looking to connect with some amazing moms, don't be shy! Reach out, comment on a post, or suggest a virtual coffee date. We're all in this together, and a strong mom tribe makes everything a little bit easier (and a lot more fun!). Let's make some connections today! 😊
